Interesting that you complained about oil consumption yet got your rod bearings replaced...

Thats a pretty incredible story. Tell Doug Demuro ;-). Seems Car max is the unicorn of warranties.

Wow, that's pretty epic. I have an Assurant warranty through USAA (but USAA seems to have discontinued those plans now since October) that I paid $3k for, and have received over $9k in dealer warranty work since - new t-stat, new differential, valve cover gasket replacement, side DCT gasket replacement.

Yikes, those prices seem insane even on the repairs that were authorized and paid for.

Oh definitely. It's one of those give an inch take a mile type of things. I would not have been charged this if paying out of pocket

great they did your RBs. I have maxcare also. I'll need to start tracking my car's oil consumption

Was this work at a BMW dealership or one of their repairpal shops?

It was just my preferred Indy shop in the area who I trust. They are very well known in vag scene and not really for bmw specifically. They had to register to provide the warranty service. I am not a big fan of the local stealership.

Thanks. I've checked around the m3post recommended Indy shops and haven't found any that work with maxcare.

Nice! Did you beat out Doug Demuro's CarMax Range Rover warranty? Didn't his CarMax warranty payout over 17k as well?

Wow I had Maxcare on my M3 as well... just expired and the only thing I used it for was to repair the electric side bolsters that stopped working.

I ended up preventatively replacing the rod bearings... damn I probably should've complained of loosing oil. I've got pictures of the worn bearings... I wonder if they'd retroactively cover... I doubt it.

I know my throttle body actuators need replacing however they haven't thrown a code or acted up since flashing back to OE software... that was 2 years ago

If you're on good terms with a shop they will will sign up to do it. It's a bit of legwork on their part but more business

I bought mine at 35k mi a year ago with Maxcare through 75k and had one claim for DCT leak to the tune of $2k. Now my ICV is definitely going out but so far difficult to replicate. I paid $2300 for the warranty so will at least pay that off soon.

I'd love to get valve cover gaskets, TAs, and RBs on this thing!

It's good you can find a quality shop that will work with assurant, I used to contract with them in a different industry and they were scumbags. They'd authorize work to be performed and then challenge the bill when it was time to get paid. They'd request our wholesale invoices for parts and expect to pay no markup. We used to have to forge them. In the end we told them to F off and because we were the only authorized service center in NorCal they still had to use us. We would just bill the customer directly and let the customer do the leg work with assurant. They were owned by GE back then, not sure if they still are. TWG was a way better company to work with.

im pretty sure you could replace the entire drivetrain with carmax warranty and they wouldn't bat an eye.

Almost a grand for a thermostat replacement. My lord I would expect the average non mechanically inclined consumer to pay that fleecing price not a extended warranty company who should know better the job is under a hour to complete maybe a hour and half with bleedingthe cooling system afterwards.

This is why warranties are so expensive now for the rest of us.

The problem with so much of the aftermarket warranty argument is that more often than not the prices for work “paid out” are dealership retail plus 50%. Not saying there aren’t cases where it works out like OP’s, but Most is what I see is:

“standard $3k 50k extra mile warrenty covered a thermostat and Throttle body actuators. $1500 for thermostat and $3k for TB actuators. I just saved $1500!!!”

Well really an Indy will do that thermostat for $500 and both TB’s for $1k total. I mean shit, I’m about to do rod bearings and new TB’s on my 55k mike e90 as preventive maintenance for under 3.5k. I’d much rather pay for that than deal with all the warranty crap.

Well I didn't pay for the warranty so idc too much, and this warranty is very good to deal with regarding claims.

Wow you even scammed the warranty company into giving you aftermarket rod bearings and bolts for no reason.
