Did you check what Mike was showing above? Also here is the info on the recall you asked about RECALL 0061400400 B612616 Technical Campaign-Battery Cable

If the problem is with the battery lead connection to the fuse box (as in the recall noted above)...it can sometimes be confirmed by moving the loom around in the fuse box area (passenger side footwell in RHD cars) which then allows the car to start.

Recall Technical Campagin - Batter
There is an open recall on this issue, but this would not show up on the BMW USA website as this issue has been brought it up in less than 2 weeks.
If you call a dealer and give them your VIN number, they will know it. Calling BMW NA does not help. |

I just found out my MY2012 (October 2011 built) is also part of the technical campaign B61 26 16, it's not a recall. For those that had this done, does it involve replacing the battery cable from the fuse box in the dash all the way to the battery in the trunk? I hope not, prefer not to have my car taken apart to this extent.

hi i am having the same issue at the min, have just read you mentioned cables related to the power terminals, are these power terminals in the engine bay or the boot where the battery is?

So my car was having this issue before, the TVA's were acting up.
It was serviced at the dealer and it was noted that the Ground Wires needed replacing. Not sure but maybe you could look into that. |

Hi guys.... same problem with my car, with a difference.... it only happens when I travel to another city (different altitude, ergo atmospheric pressure).
I'll get a voltmeter and monitoring battery under all conditions. What's the purpose of the "IBS ground battery cable"? Last edited by Namarillo; 02-12-2018 at 10:03 AM.. |

Can the IBS Terminal be bypassed for testing its condition?
Does disconnecting the IBS's BSD Cable (in the trunk - 2 wire connector), bypass the Functions of the IBS and it's ability to shut down electronics in the car? The BSD cable im talking about, is how the the IBS communicates with the car. It stands for Bit Serial Data and it goes directly from the IBS to the DME. The DME will use this info from the IBS, to determine the Batteries State of Charge(SoC), Batteries condition, necessary charging voltage, and the amount of battery charge left to ensure the engine will start. The Yellow Battery Warning Symbol will show up in the gauge cluster and will show Low Battery Charge Level, in the iDrive Screen. The BSD is the only communication the IBS uses. The DME is responsible for taking that data and determining the required values stated above. This BSD Cable is a pair of thin blue/white wires running from the IBS, up with the main positive cable harness that goes up to the front of the car, to the JB/Fuse Box, and the BSD cables continues up to the DME. |
