E92 M3 (Last V8+6spd) or F82 M4 (Last 6spd)?
Assuming BMW discontinues manual trans in the upcoming G8x generation M4, which do you think would be more desirable in the future:
E92 M3 (Last V8+6spd) or F82 M4 (Last 6spd)? E92 would have the V8 going for it. F82 would have the distinction of being the very last manual trans M4. |

There will be a time where clean E92 with lower miles will be very difficult to find and the prices will go up. Not only is it the last V8 engine, it is the last N/A M engine from BMW, which brings an end to these amazing high revving masterpieces.

You can be completely sure the G series M3/4 will still have a manual tranny

No link needed. They just removed the 6mt from the m5, a car that shouldn't have had one since the e60 generation
In the US we're getting 6mt at the very least for one more gen. I'm willing to bet money on it |

The ZF was to be expected. Most of their competitors use the ZF in their sporty cars, it was only a matter of time before the better fuel economy and mass production made the DCT obsolete. It was either that or building a DCT with 8 gears like Porsche did on the Panamera |

E92 by a mile. There will be plenty of turbo cars. What makes the F80 special vs. the new M3? Prob have the same motor. Then what if there is a manual in the new one? F80 is nothing unique.
And there will likely be more manual M3's. 50% of M2 orders are sticks. I doubt they will kill the manual. M5 manual orders were only 5%. Go look at used car values. A 13 M3 is about the same price as a 15 M3 with similar miles. I project the F80 M3 will be selling for less than a E92 M3 in a couple years. F80's are a bit more mainstream look / feel. The V8 will be sought after. I'm considering adding 1 for those reasons. While its lacking in modern (turbo) power, the V8 provides an exotic sounds / experience in a $30k car. Where else can you get that?

Damn I hadn't realized this myself since I never look at F8X M3/M4 prices (no interest). A lot of people thought BMW was going in the wrong direction with the M3/M4 and this is proving it.

That's why I created the question to be IF BMW discontinues the manual in the new M3, which will be more desirable: E92 or F82. I'm hoping BMW continues to offer the manual, making this a moot topic. |

Very unbiased input coming from someone who owns an F8X. That proves it for those of us who are still sticking to the E9X. Im with my 3rd one now.

I hadn't considered that. That's an interesting comparison:
Better chassis F82 vs. more special motor E92. Which wins out everything else being equal? |

If you could buy the last production year f82 m4 zcp in manual, down the road it will be a highly desired car. But again a 2013 e92 m3 zcp manual will be a hard find in lets say 10 years.

If you're just wanting to enjoy the car and not try to kill yourself (or anyone) in it on empty windy back roads then no doubt the E9X. I'd compare it to driving a Ferrari F355- very capable, amazing sound, fantastic looks...but would get stomped in almost every performance aspect by a newer Mustang GT. If you're truly into track days and want a much faster car around the track, then F series would be my pick. I also personally love how beastly the car feels on highway pulls. With a tune and downpipes, it's a total monster- not many cars keep up with it. I decided to upgrade from the E92 to the F80 because I think the F80 is absolutely gorgeous in a bright color, loved the newer in-car technology, and needed a 4 door sedan as I'm going to start a family this year. My old E92 vs. my F80: |

As far as better chassis between the F8X cars and the E9X cars a lot of that has to do with better tire technology between what was offered as well as the solid rear subframe. Both easily rectified in the E9X cars. The hydraulic steering on the E9X cars is also a major advantage over the F8X cars.
I bought my 2013 E92 M3 off of lease in March 2017, so glad I did. IMHO I really wasn't even interested in the F8X cars. I would jump into a 2018 PP2 Mustang GT before a F8X car. Dave

There is not a single unique or standout feature about the F8x to make it increase in future value. None. Zero.
The E9X barely has a small chance at that feat for low mileage, desirable spec examples but that's it.
