Haha posting this thread may have bit you. Maybe they wouldn't have retroactively enforced the limit if the demand hadn't gone up after you ordered!

LOL. You are absolutely right about that.
I was still able to get my 3 sets but they increased the price on me by $20 per tire without even telling me about it
I saw the price difference in the invoice.

I placed an order shortly after this thread was started, and told a friend about it as well. He got a call from tirerack saying they're refunding him the money for one of the orders. At least we both got one set.

Pretty damn shady though. We literally placed the orders within an hour of OP posting this

There's going to be two opinions here. Those who are upset they couldn't hoard, and those who were glad tire rack put a customer limit on the orders.

I also placed an order within an hour (maybe an hour and 15?) of this post, and when I submitted card info it told me there were only 3 tires in stock and cancelled my order.

The next morning I tried again and found that at least the regular r1 became available, albeit at 40$ more a tire than the r1s. I'm glad I got at least that.

What upset me in this situation is the conditions were not clear going into it.

NT01 for example clearly states 'limit 4 per customer' in their sales.

I am annoyed there was no warning, so I wasted my time placing 6 orders just to have a policy retroactively applied. When TR called me they wanted to confirm I was not a shop and said they would have a meeting to decide what to do with customers who had ordered more than one. In that meeting they retroactively decided they would not allow more than 4 tires per customer.
Also, although I had purchased 4 sets of R1S and 2 sets of R1, when they cancelled my orders they decided I would only be able to get a set of R1 without my input.

I can understand being annoyed that they decided which tire model you were going to get, but did it take a lot of time or effort to up the qty to 24 tires in your cart vs 4?

The quantity was limited to 4 at a time. Everyone who ordered multiple sets completed the check out, CC input etc multiple times.

That did take effort, especially as I was returning to CT from VIR and had to stop for 30 min to get these orders out.

I would have liked clear expectations, not a meeting the day after the orders are placed to decide if they will honor your orders.
After that meeting, they changed the system and if you had already ordered you could not place a second order again. If you don't want to allow people to buy multiple sets, you do this from the beginning and that's that.

Agreed! If the intent is to discount to unload excess inventory what's the harm in folks buying multiple sets? That said, if you were a known reseller or shop that would be a different matter.

To retroactively change the terms of the deal is absurd. I know it sucks to miss out, but if you snooze ya lose.

Well in that case, I guess it took me some time to attempt to send orders through that would get cancelled because some of you were hoarding them.

In the end you got cheap tires, I got cheap tires, a lot of others in here got cheap tires. And yet somehow....we both lost.

It was a business decision, and I think you guys could probably see it from their perspective.

Sell to 3 guys who stockpile them = create 3 happy customers who won't need tires at full price for a while.

Sell to 20 people, one set at a time = 17 happy customers who will burn up those tires in a few months and come back for more, and then 3 unhappy.

Even if those initial 3 get pissed off, they still get one set of cheap tires. And even if they never come back: the 17 others probably will.

You're forgetting about the guys that usually use slicks and only bought this because it was a steal and will not be purchasing anymore tires from tirerack regardless (unless there's another insane deal on some stickies.)

I kid I kid. I only ordered one set anyway, but I can definitely understand how it's annoying for them to enforce new rules after the fact.

Let's hope they actually have grip when they arrive, or it'll start smelling like a class action in this thread

I think the tires will still be super sticky.

I just had the CS with 275 A7s from 2016 do 3 seconds slower than the M4 GT4 around VIR. Same day, same track, same driver. Stock CS other brake Alcon-BW brakes and MCS 3WR suspension as well as race seats up front

If you store them out in the sun I'm sure they get ruined quickly, but stored nicely they last a long time.

Is this a subtle brag that you got to drive an M4 GT4 around VIR?

nopes

I'd probably be slower in a M4 GT4 for a while, high aero cars are different than zero aero cars and the full slick and less power would also take some getting used to.

No, the CS with A7s was 3 seconds off pace with the same pro driver that just did the time with the M4 GT4.

Unless I can own a M4 GT4 I have no interest in driving it. A nonpro driver who has tons of seat time in SpecE46 for example is able to beat pros who usually drive other cars. Specialization is key!
