WTF does Stage 1 mean?

BMW went back to the cross plane set-up in GTE because they were able to get a waiver that allowed them to use the current GT3 engine. The P65B40 used in the M3 GT2 is pretty much tapped after 4 years of development and moving to the P65B44 (with it's extra 400cc of displacement) gives them little bit of wiggle room. They're both also bespoke (ie almost nothing in common with the s65; hell, it's even cast from a different alloy) endurance racing engines, so BMW would have taken care any vibration/durability issues associated with use of a flat or cross plane crank long before the it engine leaves the dyno phase of testing.
Also, what BMW does in GT racing (besides GT4) has little relevance to what is done in our own street vehicles. Their habit of starting with the wrong vehicle and going crazy with waivers to make it competitive makes their GT class cars more like prototypes. |

I am just saying given he is also stroking the engine, if the gte can use 4.4 litres and the cross-plane to get almost 500 hp WITH an air restricter restricting it than someone is likely going to be fine with a stroker and cross crank for a street engine and make plenty of power and do it more safely without vibration so it lasts

Good luck with the build. Hopefully there is some HP to be made beyond 8000RPM. |

Is there a big difference in landing different planes?
They're making a big deal that it was his first landing of the 777. .

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

Although flat plane cranks do save rotating mass, the main reason they are used in higher performance applications is not due to that but it is for exhaust optimization. In a flat plane application the exhaust pulses per bank are evenly spaced (every 180 degrees, just like in a 4 cylinder) instead of having two pulses separated by 90 degrees and two by 270. This unevenness makes for a less efficient exhaust.
