2008 E90 M3 Jerez Black - Mechanic Special
Hello Everyone. Sad day, my M3 through a rod and the block is toast. I had a shop replace the bearings and rod bolts less than 12 months ago, but alas they must have done a poor job because the engine is gone... Shop is out of business now so I have no recourse... Anyway testing the waters on if anyone has interest in the car. 2008 E90 M3 Jerez Black Black interior Premium Package Navigation 6-Speed Manual Lowered on BMW Springs Work on the car: Upgraded Brakes - ECS Racing 2 piece rotors / Stop Tech Pads Dinan Under-drive Pully Poly Engine and Trans mounts ICV's and Actuators are new Up to date on all fluids: Diff, Trans, Power Steering, Coolant, etc all done before due dates. This is BMW #6 for me, so I really try to take care of them. Rest of the car is in excellent condition. Thanks for Looking!

Car is still available. Don't know why it failed, and no I'm not gonna spend $2k to have someone tell me what I already know, the engine has a 2 inch hole in it. Needs a new engine... Please PM me if you're interested. Car has 121k miles on it. TON of work on the car outside of the engine. Brand New Brakes!, Tires are great, custom exhaust, lowered, custom sound system, custom floor mats, all maintenance it's ever needed, all fluids, too much to list.

UPDATE. Car has been sold. Went to a local engine builder who is going to do right by the car and build an engine from the ground up to get over BMW's f-up of 2 generations of cars with Rod Bearing Issues. No tune on the car, no engine performance mods. All work was simply preventative maintenance using the best of the best parts by a reputable shop.........

I too was thinking it was unlikely a rod bolt came loose, no picture (yet) of a relatively intact bolt hanging around + the rod snapped to pieces....

Wanted to update this thread as people are curious what failed.
Still not exactly sure what the root cause of the failure was but the vehicle had about 5k miles since rod bearings were done. Aside from the front 2 rods destroying each other and the front 2 cylinders the rest of the block was good. Rods and bearings looked new on all but 2 cylinders, mains looked good and I have one rod piece with a broken rod bolt and the other side was completely intact. It looked as if the bolt came out and the end cap came apart. Pictures included below. Let me know what you guys think caused this.

Thanks for the follow up. And yea it does look like that bolt came loose after all, I'm still a little surprised that the top end of the rod broke though. I look forwards to what you do with the car.
