Which Coilover setup will go the lowest...

Hey guys.

I'm soon to be an owner of an e92 M3, but I'm trying to buy some coilovers now so I can install them as soon as I get the car. Which coilover setup will give me the largest drop front and back? My plan is to run 20" wheels with a half tire tuck upfront and half tire tuck in the back or maybe more...

here's the info I tried to gather

h&r coilovers
~$1400
max drop
1.6'' front - 1.3'' rear

KW V3 w/EDC
~$2600
max drop
1.5'' front - 1.4'' rear

KW clubsport
~$3100
max drop
no idea. tightie?

PSS10(not yet out in the US)
~2300
max drop
60mm(~2.4'') front - not sure about the rear, I translated it on google and it says 20mm(~.78'')
this is what google says
The vehicle's height can be at BILSTEIN B16 PSS10 in a lowering of approximately 40-60 mm at the front and rear axle to the registered range of about 20 mm vary.

so yeah
don't take my word for it
I'm no expert on translating for car parts

don't go too low, you'll jack up roll center....causing the car to want to roll more..

KW Variant 3 Lowering Adjustment Ranges:

0.4~1.5" (Front)
0.2~1.4" (Rear)

KW Clubsport Lowering Adjustment Ranges:

0.4~1.5" (Front)
0.2~1.4" (Rear)

They're exactly the same in terms of how much they can lower the vehicle. As for the spring rates:

Clubsport features 510 lbs Front and 800 lbs Rear spring rates while the KW Variant 3 models features a progressive spring setup for the front and rear.

If you're planning to use the vehicle on the street, I'd consider going with the KW V3 coilovers as they'll give you a much better ride quality when driving on normal roads and not glass-smooth track surfaces.

The Variant 3 models will lower you just as much.

This guys is smart!

Dropping the car out of its normal suspension geometry limits will create a lot of unwanted behavior when driving the car at its limits. Lowering the vehicle past the manufacturer recommendations will get you those results.

If you have any questions, please feel free to shoot over a PM.

The new e9x m3's dont go that low, at least in comparison to the old e46's. Here's a pic of my friend jason's car, forum member JMAT, which is sitting on KW clubsports at FULL DROP FRONT AND REAR. He is also running 15/12mm spacers. Were going to try to make it a little lower though by removing the rear spring collars so the spring could sit right in its perch.

Dropping lower then the specs can create very unexpected driving behavior as the suspension geometry is out of out wack. For instance KW suspensions has max lowering limits. Going below these limits substantially, will give you very lazy steering feed back. However going a few threads below the lowering limit should be fine.

We have tried to find the best drop / handling characteristics on my personnel E46 M3, however we found BEST results were found with the specified lowering limits.

Tuning is also key - finding the right balance (bump/rebound settings for street/track) will also impact the way your car behaves! Anyways, we do have allot of experience working with KW suspensions with the E92 chassis. Let me know if we can do anything for you

Below is an E46 M3 with KW V3 set at 13.5" / 13.0" which is the perfect balance. This is the optimal height for handling.

Here is a pictures showing full slam, when I had the ride height like this the car handled like a 1986 Buick with 60 series side walls!

I'm so glad to hear the responses to a misguided BMW owner. s2ki.com used to be like this site where people would recommend the correct thing to do. Now everyone wants to slam their cars and put wheels on that don't fit.

Former www.s2ki.com member here as well. That's usually what happens when the value of the cars are at half of what they used to cost.

I sometimes turn away customers that I know are going to have a terrible setup which they can in turn use to slander the vendor as well. It happens.

Stay within the recommended height adjustments and you'll be fine.

Are you sure those arent KW v3s? Clubsports make the car go way lower.. the point where it isn't even drivable.

Nope. I'm 100% sure they are KW cubsports. I was sent pics constantly during the install. There were camber plates, helper springs and linear springs on the coilover. The car belongs to jason matloob, aka forum member jmat. PM me or him if you know why they don't go lower than in the pics.

PS, the pics aren't that clear. In person, the car looks much lower. The camera angles make the car look higher. It has about half a tire tuck all around.
