New ticking noise - not the usual suspects - Driveshaft Center Bearing?

So I have a strange ticking noise that has been bugging me the past few weeks. Here are the symptoms.

1. Ticking noise - sounds metal on metal.
2. Location - below center console, difficult to tell where, sounds behind transmission.
3. Ticking Type - Picks up speed with wheel speed not audible above 70kph (possibly frequency)
4. Symptoms most obvious on decel below 3000 rpm in 1-3 gear, but also evident on light acceleration in those gears at same rpm.

So I have looked at the diff, and all the bolts are there and tight. All mounts appear to be in good order.

No obvious damage to heat shields or missing fittings to cause rubbing, or any obvious rubbing spots.

So this makes me think it is the Driveshaft Center Bearing, but before I pull the exhaust off the car has anyone had center bearing issues, and are my symptoms similar?

Thanks!

how about the front brake pads? They can tick like that when newly installed or poorly adjusted.

Pretty sure it is not the brakes. First of all there have been no changes to the brakes, pads have good thickness, and the sound is from the center of the car.
