I had a few friends (AR Motorsports) down there supporting a car in the 25 hours of Thunderhill. It was an absolute mud fest. Literally mud across the entire track in places. So I'm not surprised you found a few holes off track. The AR car finished P2 in ES with zero mechanicals. |

Ouch!!! I saw the dropoff there on the inside on 8 after you mentioned it. That was no bueno. Guess it’s a good thing you swapped out the tires after that session. Good thing Apex has their discounted replacement wheel program!

Thanks for sharing some of your experience with the E92 M3 platform. I might have to look into the cooling airfow improvements you mentioned. This past weekend was good with my coolant temps only maxing out at 195F, but it was ice cold out! |

Footage from the incident fsmtnbiker and I saw/experienced. I sat out this session due to a tire puncture and cracked wheel.

So the McLaren noticed smoke ahead, down a hill where he couldn't see the whole situation or if the track was clear, then thought, "No big deal, send it"? |

But he set a track record? Ceramics would have saved him.

I always assumed carbon-ceramic rotors would perform better in terms of heat capacity / cooling + weight savings, just cost more. Thus, the decision to move to steel rotors is a more cost-effective solution. Is that not true?

Even Porsche recommends that people who order ceramics take them off for serious tracking. They perform better than steel as far as heat soaking to a point, but they can still overheat and crack. And at that point, replacing a several hundred dollar steel rotor vs. a several thousand dollar ceramic rotor....

Oh dang. Good to know! So yeah it might perform a bit better in the absolute sense when it's all together.. but extreme use might just prematurely destroy it.. Got it. Not that I'm baller enough to run CCBs, but good info!

I can't find the article now, but I read somewhere an interview with a Porsche engineer that said the ceramics where for people who don't want to deal with brake dust or "regular" service intervals.

looks like i got a track day on the calendar! i got a private day on 01/24/20 at buttonwillow. super stoked to return! now i have to start prepping the machine.
i have to get my front rotors machined (endless pads left a weird layer on my rotors), and i'm due for a SRF flush. i also have a set of pirelli dh scrubs to mount.

so, if that is accurate, they are great to an extent, but relatively delicate. its quite common to see people with gt3's at the track with iron rotors- there is a good reason for that. in fact, i think essex sells ap j-hook iron rotors as a direct replacement for the carbon rotors. so when you go to sell the car, swap on the brand new ccb's and put in the appropriate pads and its a new set of brakes like nothing happened. other than the general benefits of CCB's, they aren't any better "feeling" than iron rotors. the only ccb experience i have was on an M4 at a mperformance day at thermal. it was oem stuff, but i prefer the feel of my brakes and that is not a biased opinion.

Can any of you big tire bois help me figure out wheel fitments for fitting 295/30/18 Nankang AR-1 or Toyo RR?
I see APEX has square 18x10.5 ET22. They recommend this offset. Titan 7 has 18x10.5 ET25. A little less pushed out to the fenders. Bimmerworld TE:AL has 18x10.5 ET27. Recessed in further.. ET22 vs ET25 - what's the deal? I know fsmtnbiker runs 295/30/18 AR-1 so it should be a tire that fits and doesn't rub. What about the optimal offsets? I want to avoid spacers. I'm running JRZ RS One with hyperco springs, so I should have relatively good clearance with the suspension. I've fit 18x10.5 ET22 square APEX wheels for their forged wheel photoshoot, but it had 275/35/18 R88R tires Thanks in advance! |

I’ll throw my track wheels back on and see what the inner clearance to the strut is. I’ve been running them at an effective ET24 up front and there’s no issue with clearance inside or out. In the rear I’m effectively ET22 and no issues there either. 22 all around should be no issue at all, same with 25 but I’ll double check the inner clearance up front to be sure.
