Endurance tire choice in my book still goes to the 615k or RS4 unless you’re trying to set fastest laps. I may scoop another set of A052’s for SCCA Time Trials at some point since it’s 200tw limited, I currently have a dedicated autox set of A052’s only, and just plan to run RS4’s or Scrubs on track for now since it’s more cost-effective. I have access to takeoffs in the RS4 size I need from a local WRL team.
My co-driver and I delaminated my A052’s last weekend actually so we are tire shopping right now. Sadly the new Falken won’t have 285’s in until mid-summer.
How would you compare the A052 to RE71’s in wear and performance? The rs4s are definitely tanks, crazy how much abuse they can take.

The A052’s wear approximately 2x as fast as the RE71. If not faster.

Chris’s comment on speed is correct. Your comment on wear is also correct. My tires above got 48-ish 60-second Autocross runs
I think in a TT scenario where 200TW is required they probably would be ok but might only get 2-3 days out of them

Did anyone look at the new Falken RT660?

I knew it was coming but it appears to have decent size choices too.

Anyone running this lip splitter?

Looking for something minimally aggressive and fairly inexpensive bc I am sure to scrape it everywhere.

Not familiar with that one - but I picked up one of each of these for the race car to work with the maximum 2" from the front of the bumper rule in my class in SCCA. If you are in the SA area soon you are more than welcome to stop in and check them out - they are at M-Technik. Quick visual inspection they looked pretty decent for the money.

That's a bummer - was hoping they would at least match the wear rate of the RE71.

Anyone know how they work in the wet?

Regarding driving events: if you take in car instruction get your own microphone/ear piece. No need to touch other student’s crud.

Not sure what the hot set up is for comms these days. Used to be chatterbox.

As soon as I can get my hands on a set of RT660 in an M3 size I’ll be testing them. Until then might try to get some driving on them in a BRZ so I’ll report back. Big 18” sizes won’t be available until mid-summer, June/July at earliest.

Yeah not sure what to do here. I planned to hit up MSR Cresson 3.1 this spring. Maybe lead-follow and/or hand signals for a session.

As long as you both have the new FIA approved safety gear you should be ok.

After an awful wet Saturday at Eagles Canyon, we had a dry but overcast Sunday. Really had a chance to hustle the car during the final session of the day and work my new R888Rs...

BTW if anyone has any theories about that weird whirring sound on deceleration (sounds like it's coming from the diff?), let me know. I can't tell if it's gear whine or just the tires. A few spectators even commented on the sound.

I believe it's the tires. When I ran R888R's I noticed the same thing - damn are they noisy!

I work at a hospital, so I have access to the standard PPE for COVID. But I have no idea where they stash the FIA approved suits.

Spinning off this thought I had from the track day cancellations thread...

What is everyone planning on doing with their track-downtime over the next few weeks? In lieu of events we were all planning on going to, anyone else getting/doing any work on their cars? Looking at old videos/data? Sim driving? etc.
Interested to hear how everyone is passing time!

I just bought a front sway bar and got new tires so will be installing the front bar and test-fitting the tires. This tire size (275/40/18 A052) will likely will require raising the ride height and doing another alignment to get them to fit so that's all on my agenda over the next couple of weeks. Anyone else?
