Been shopping for a good scan tool, is this one you guys would recommend?

Or is there another one people think is better?

That is a Foxwell NT520 or 530. It is a good tool. I have the original version the NT510. You might find it online for less. It was $150 when I bought.

I believe the Schwaben tool is a rebranded Foxwell. The newest Foxwell version (NT530) can be had on eBay for $130-140. I got one a couple months ago to register a new battery and check/clear faults. Definitely a good tool to have for older BMWs.

You can get a download of ISTA+ from the bimmergeeks website. Then get yourself a K+DCAN cable for $20 or so

I believe the seller's name was "chinacardiag." Kinda sounds like a fake seller, but everything I received is legit. Very solid device helped me diagnose my faulty brake vacuum sensor. Shipped quickly from China and the seller was surprisingly very helpful.

Looks like there are other sellers in the U.S. Just be sure to get the NT530 scanner pre-loaded with BMW software.

When I bought directly from Foxwell, the free brand specific module was provided when you registered the scan tool.

I bought a Foxwell 520, and it simply stopped turning on 2 months past the 12 month warranty. Foxwell nor the retailer would do anything for me. I barely used it and definitely didn't drop or abuse it.

Out of curiosity, I took it apart and the construction and soldering is garbage. Huge disappointment and a waste of $150.

Ordered an Autel from FCP. If it breaks I'll lean on their replacement warranty.

It was a couple of years ago and I have not tried more recently. Maybe it no longer sells direct? The foxwell mall website makes it look like it is Foxwell.

I have the scan tool called Creator C310, looks cool with color display etc,
But I found that the phone app ProTool by BimmerGeeks is much more powerful, easier to use.

Cheers,

Cheers,
+1, Protool has worked flawlessly for me for diagnosis and coding.

You can also buy an older refurbished laptop with all sorts of software including for coding, for about $500. I recently did and it has just about everything on it for BMWs from 1996-2019 and came with the cable.

For handheld, I still like my Foxwell NT510 after 3 years. Carly is also good. I don’t know the protool, but phone apps are pro my the way of the future unless you need a big screen and more easily accessible features for coding.
