Is Audi becoming a big threat for 3 series? (New A4, A5, S5)

Hi, I just want to learn your opinions

Audi has announced new A4 prices for US, 2.0 TFSI $32,700 and 3.2 FSI $34500

2.0 TFSI Quttaro 211 hp 350 Nm 0-100 6.6 sec 246 km/h top speed
10L/5.9L/7.5L (average)

Also for 54k$ you can get a S5 with full option, bad news for 335i and M3
(BBS 20'' rims and coilovers not included )

These cars really look nice and high quality, Are E90 and E92 that much appealing like in 2 years ago ?

everytime i see an audi on the road, i see it as an arch enemy lol. i have no idea what audi's are capable of because i have never driven one, but i know its at that competitive level with bmw and ive had 4 bmw's. the new S5 looks sharp, i saw a youtube comparison video between the S5 and 335i and the S5 won by miliseconds, but then the review gave bmw the better handling merit.

bmw all the way.

I think you better relook at that video (the fifth gear track comparison) - the 335i actually won that - NOT THE S5!!

I drove the S5 and 335 when my RX8 lease expired. The S5 was number one on my list - until I *drove* the 335. I was Audi all the way until I experienced their terrible steering wheel feel and handling mis-adventure.

Drive an Audi and you will feel the difference (Unless you drive like a muppet)

BMW have nothing to fear from Audi - it is just an expensive VW. I'm glad Audi exist, it means that BMW keep raising the bar.

I think you will find the new Audis are equal to the e46 BMWs - which were great cars!

I had seriously considered an Audi, the interior is fantastic IMHO. But the 335i's power just trounced the 2.0T and the gas mileage beat the S4's V8 by a lot (oh yeah, and that adaptive steering boost is just wierd).

dude the A5/S5 makes the bmw smoke pole? why? how many 3'ers you see on the road? when was the last time you saw S5 rolling down the road? by an owner not a test-drive

even a all-black A5 is the hotness.

The new S' will have that 300-odd horsepower v-6 supercharged motor to combat the turbo so it will be interesting. you know folks will be putting pulleys on those.

The interior on the A5 takes you back to the cockpit of the E46 wrap around -bad-ass-

The A4 ehh doesn't do it for me. i'd rather stick to the 335i. i'm sorry but on 360 view the A5/S5 just walks all over anything bmw has and once you set inside its a whole nother story.

ever fishtale your 335i? in rain? in snow? that just doesn't exist with quattro. i have to actually pay attention when gunning it in the rain around a corner now. with my old A4 it was pedal to the metal even in rain - go as fast as possible and no worries.

dont get me wrong i like the bimmer but the A5 brought sexy back for audi. bmw has no comparable. now when i see the S4 Avant that might bring sexy back to audi on that front.

Is Audi a better looking car? Subjective, but even many of us E9x owners would admit yes. Is it a better car? I would say no, due to its FWD heritage (Audi tried to market FWD claiming it was better to pull than to push), and the fact that they heavily rely on V6 motors.

This thread is basically the same as one that was started earlier!

The new B8 A4 3.2 Quattro cannot be ignored. 0-60 in 5.7. Thats a huge improvement over the past B7 gen. Add legnedary quattro, and we got ourselves a ball game. Its 0-60 is now only a few 10ths slower than a 335xi. Not sold on the looks yet though. Interior as expected is unbelievable.

I don't think there's any question that the A4/A5 is a threat to BMW (and vice-versa). Both cars are great, very capable. They are absolutely cross-shopped. They might have slightly different priorities (e.g., Audi leans a bit more towards style/quattro while BMW leans to pure handling/engine), but I'd bet the A4, not the G35, steals the most sales from the 3-series.

Just my $0.02.

Bmw is leader in sales because of US, Audi is really weak in US, but the point is that US is the only place where Audi is weak, if Audi becomes successful in US then will be the leader in premium class. Audi's weapons are attractive design, high quality and quatto. I think they are a making a great effort to increase sales, as I am a really big Bmw fan, I can not say "No" for A5/S5

Upcoming A4 sedan is smoking! My fiance's volvo's lease ends next year and that's #1 on the list right now. We'll see how much she likes it when we test drive it. Facelifted E90 would be #2. I really love what Audi has done with the looks of the new A4.

While the cars are beautiful, they're still underpowered. If BMW hadn't released the 335i and stuck with the 330i, choosing between the two would be even more competitive, but because BMW released the 335i, which sits on top of the competitions in terms of speed, its really a no-brainer if your looking for quickness, comfort, and mod-friendliness (thats to say, if you need a car faster then the A4 3.2). According to the specs above though, the A4 3.2 is about 5,000 less than the 335i currently, if Audi can release the S4 for about $39,500, then we'll have some good ol' competition

IMO

The S5 is beautiful. I love the LED look on the headlights.
335i is a joy to drive. I haven't tried out the S5/A5 yet so I cannot say on terms of driving comfort.

I do however have an A6, which is fantastic. Though, wish it had more torque, but I love the AWD capability.

Audis are equal in the overall equation. You sacrifice driving crispness for a little more quality imo, Audi vs BMW. Styling is subjective, like both. Audi interiors are the benchmark that all others are measured against, have been for almost a decade now.

Had an S5 on order in '07, cancelled because it drives like a heavy pig in town vs the competition. May be a different car on the track but feels lazy overall. There is no comparison though on the interior quality. The S5 makes the 335 feel like "an expensive VW" in your words lol.

Like both makes but there isn't a superior choice between the two when considering all the selection criteria.

The new S5 is gorgous (I have owned 3 Audi's in the past) and that new S5 with the optional red interior is stunning. I had no idea Audi was adding force induction to the newer S5 lineup. It's probably going to be crazy expensive though...

This is my next choice. I am going back. Having had 4 A4s in the past, the E90 was a disappointment. The A5 is just amazing.

Nicely Done

Audi has done a very nice job with the A4, and as a former A6 owner, I can certainly understand the reasons why there are those who gravitate to the A4 over the 3 - Quattro, a more upscale interior (although I prefer BMW's spartan sport look), and most likely the most influential reason, a less polarizing badge.

I just don't believe many of them will be former BMW 3 owners.

At the time when I was looking to get the next VW, I saw Audi and that style front where it looks like a huge grille. It lead me to believe VW was going the same way and it did. Ugly. Now these funky looking LEDs? No way. BMW did well with the coronas and now Audi does a "under eye brow" technology. Double ugly
