This is one of those cases where you may want to just order from the dealer and provide your VIN. Parts like this go through so many random modifications over time that there can be several variants specific to your VIN.

Thanks guys- we're going to take a look at it @ the shop on Monday next week and see what we want to do. For one of my friends who rubbed enough to create a leak, he wasn't able to fill anymore fluid. He ended up mitigating it on another car of his (long story) by putting a metal plate over the rub spot. He's running similar spring rates, around 550/800 too.

I've got a friend at a dealership nearby, so yea good idea dparm - I might ask him for his expertise.

What's so confusing about it? There's only the 1 fender liner for left and right.

I saw that part and potentially another part that looked similar. They were in two different sections of realoem within the body section.

Okay, phew. Body parts can be some some of the worst offenders for having forty versions, and the restocking fees can be brutal.

Do a lot of you other track guys have this issue? This is the first post I've seen yet so many of us run nearly the same setups. Almost surprised after seeing this that it isn't more common.

It seems to be an issue that comes up at Laguna turn 6, so it's probably mostly NorCal drivers that may be able to share experiences. Happened on mine and another friend's car. Things in common are ~550/800 spring rates.

Yeah, after running a day at BW I had no rubbing whatsoever. Now after 1 day at Laguna I wore through the liner and just started into the filler neck. The compression in T6 and T9 at Laguna is a big one.

I raised the car at the beginning of the day by ~8mm to try and mitigate this. I raised it another 8mm after the 3rd session when I saw how much wear I was getting. I'm going to add some bumpstops to the MCS to try to fully mitigate this. I'm also on 1100lb rear springs but was running relatively low prior to raising the car up. I suspect it will be fine now on any track... I was also taking compression damping out due to the track conditions which makes the rubbing even worse.

i could be out of whack with this thought, but here it is anyways to provoke some thought- what if you had a dampener bumpstop that you could cut and zip tie around the top of the shock shaft so that you only get additional dampening in those two corners that you are bottoming out?
its not going to damage anything, right? only thing to be aware of is how its going to make the car feel with that corner bottoming out before the other suspension, but i would think its already "doing that" anyways.

i don't have any experience with this, but i'm thinking its a $100 solution for this problem. bring some zip ties and bumps to your next track day there, hit it with just a zip tie around the shaft to see where your bump depth is needed, then cut the bumpstop to suit accordingly.

lookie here.
