You can try logic mode -- little "l" or big "L". Personally, I keep mine on "A", all-bogeys mode. I turned X-band off and really don't get many falses now. I've had Escorts in the past and the V1 falses less. (But I don't have experience with a more recent Escort.)

You do know that you can turn X-band detection off, don't you?

I finally went with the 9500ix and I really like it. The GPS false lockout system is a godsend for someone like me who is in Metro LA a lot. After about a week driving around, it has cut my false alerts by 90%+. If you have any common sense then there is no real need for arrows, you just interperate the signal strength of the alert.

No, it will not. I've had it on 3 cars now with no problem.

Thanks for the reply. I'm debating which way to go on this. I've always had Escorts and had no problems.

They go for $399 + $25 shipping, and if you want a hard shell carrying case add $29

Nothing beats the Valentine One in radar and laser detection in the under $500 radar detector category.

I've had a cop shoot an X-band at me before when I was out of state, and I do drive long distances quite frequently, so I'd rather keep it on just to be safe.

Escort

I have the escort 9500i. I have never used a V1 but they have quite the cult following. I get good range and always have plenty of time to react to a warning...even over hills.

I like the fact I can lock out false alarms with the GPS feature. Makes my commute a little more peaceful.

Up here I bet I could dissable X and K band and eliminate 99% of my false alarms. All the local enforment agencies use Ka band. I have had a few Ka band false alarms but I bet its less than 5.

Tint will have NO affect on radar but might affect the LASER detection...if that is important to you. I assume you wouldn't tint the front windshield anyways.

Laser is being used almost exclusivly inside my city, except for the photo radar vans. If you are lucky you might pick up some scatter from a car being targeted infront of you, but if you are targeted directly, you are going DOWN. The only defence agaist LASER is a jammer, which may or may not be legal in your state.

After doing a lot of research I was ready to buy the Escort 9500ci. The unit sells for $1,595 on the Escort/Passport website and that website listed the local BMW dealership as an authorized dealer. I called the dealer and was told they no longer install Escorts. When I asked why I was told Escort ended the deal with BMW. The dealer then told me the only radar detector they are authorized to sell and install is a KP40 model. In all of my research, most of it done on radar detector forums, I never saw mention of the KP40. I looked it up and found a model, KP40-2000P, described as follows: " undetectable DUAL sensors are used. One is mounted behind the front grill and the other behind the rear tail light or bumper." There was more information about the product and I point this aspect out only becauseI want a mounted unit. Naturally, quality is my number one concern.

I'm somewhat irritated that the dealer will not install the Escort unit... In any event, has anyone here heard of or had experience with the KP40 models?

Thanks for any helpful comments or suggestions.

I have an Escort SRX built in to my E93 and I also have a V1 hardwired. On radar the V1 is more sensistive, usually responds a few seconds before the Escort. The Esscort is better for laser and also includes jammers. The V1 gets many more false alatms but the arrows are a great feature that no other manufacturer offers.

V1 is the way to go -very happy with it. Does a great job, gives minimal false alarms and it is fully configurable. Good user interface too and good quality of build!

from what i've heard the v1 is the best if you dont mind a few false alarms. th e 9500xi is for people that do mostly city driving or cant live with false alarms. Personally though i would take the V1 over the 9500xi because as long as its picking up all of the real threats i dont care if their are a few false alarms.

V1 is too annoying, too many false alerts, after trying both, I settled with the 9500i

+1 on the V1 false alarms. I love it though and would not trade it for nothing.

the only thing the V1 has over the 9500's are the directional arrows. you can set a 9500 up to display all the different signals it's receiving in advanced mode. the sensitivity is almost exactly that of a V1 except you can block out all the false signals saving you tons of headaches and occasions hitting the mute button. i live in a densely populated area with a lot of automatic doors and other false signals, the 9500 is almost indispensable.
