F80 Park Assist questions

I’m trying to learn this feature, I’ve read the manual but I’m still not having much luck.

I take it you have to press the parking assist button early and drive past the park? I have done this multiple time for bay parking and can’t get it to detect the park...

Does there have to be a car in front and behind?

The manual says putting the car in reverse can activate parking assist, do you then have to reverse past the space to get it to work or should it have automatically scanned the space if driven past slowly?

I read the manual and now know if you’re parking on the drivers side you have to indicate to tell it, still won’t work for bay parking for me.

And yes I know and yes I can park but I want the feature to work or understand more about it
