Hello all,

I ordered an individual Dakar Yellow m3 coupe about 1.5 months ago and i had a change of heart on the exterior color. Problem is the vehicle already began production, it's scheduled to finish production later this month, and deliver by late June to New Century BMW in Alhambra, CA. I feel horrible for putting my salesman in this predicament and the least i can do on my end is post up on this forum to get some exposure and hopefully aid in a speedy sell.

Here are the order specs:
2012 M3 coupe
*Dakar Yellow exterior ($5,000 option)
*two tone fox red/black leather interior
*carbon leather trim
*Premium Package
*Heated Seats
*Carbon Fiber Roof

I believe MSRP is $72,445

Since they stopped making the sedan in 2011

I was so close to ordering my Sedan in DAKAR, but I was intending to use it as a daily driver, but I changed my mind and went for AW. DARN!

That is why some dealers are asking for big deposits before ordering something like this.....

The car would of been perfect with all black int.....

The "least" you can do is buy the car. Anything less than this is why we in the USA cannot get a steady diet of Individual choices/options. The dealers and BMW NA know that buyers in the USA can back out of any order and they'll be stuck with specialty (read: potentially ugly) cars that will be very difficult if impossible to sell. (See Ronald McDonald character in this string) IMO, if you don't take the car after ordering a specialty color combination, the dealer should be allowed to sue you to recover any losses.

I'm not challenging you regarding your color choices, rather your lack of honor for putting your dealer and salesperson in this predicament. They ordered this car for you in good faith. For you to "walk" on this car is nothing short of taking advantage of them.

These cars are expensive and there are not buyers around every corner. This is reflected in fewer and fewer "spec" cars sitting on lots around the country. Ever wonder why? I'm not a dealer nor do I work for one. If you walk, I hope you're banned from ordering a BMW forever. That's the "least" you deserve for making us all look bad.

Don't really know what to say on the color combo...but haven't seen this before, so judging without first hand knowledge.

I'd stick with it. Screw it, it should be an interesting color combo. It's just Fox Red with Black, so you should be okay. What about the guys I've seen with Phoenix Yellow over Cinnamon E46 M3s? Not a color choice I'd pick at first thought, but I think it's good looking and rather unique.

Hopefully the car gets destroyed during production. Quality Control burns it to the ground after the interior is installed and they see what they've created.

How will they let you out of the order? Don't you sign some sort of commitment or something? Seems like a big risk for a dealer to take. Don't wrap your car please. It's not a Honda Civic. Either do the deal and live with it or back out if you can (best option).

Take delivery, gut the interior... Recaros and a full challenge carbon fiber interior and you will be the envy of everyone. Dakar will look great and so will the interior if you gut it. Orrrr. Swap someone your brand new interior for a gently used speed cloth or all black interior.
