FS: Stock X pipe with welded test pipes

Hi all,

I have a new x pipe I am installing, so as a result I'll be selling my current one.

It is a factory x pipe with the main cats removed, and AA test pipes WELDED in place. (for off road use only)

If you've been considering test pipes, this would be a great buy. Normally test pipes require you to cut off the main cat, and then clamp the test pipes in its place. This clamping method, IMHO, always leaks. Welding the pipes is a far better solution.

The advantage for you, the purchaser, is you can take this as a single unit, and avoid hacking up your factory x pipe, which makes for easy swapping.

I'm asking $350.00. If I cant find a buyer, or someone who is willing to pay enough, I'll simply cut the secondary cats out of the x pipe, and recycle them, and throw the rest away.

Local pickup only. Will not ship.

I have the same setup, and you're right, it always seems like they leak. I switched to OEM style full clamps. Still had to use a v band on the passenger side though.

Wish you had this up for sale before I had mine installed. Good luck!

If you dont want a CEL, you will need a tune. You can run the stock tune with this no problem, you'll just have a CEL permanently illuminated. No degradation with performance or fuel economy.

Curious, what x pipe did you end up going with?

Valvetronic actually. It has the x moved forward like the bimmerworld and ess x-pipes. Better exhaust scavenging which gives a little more torque, and seems to change the sound to be a bit higher pitched. They also claim they use HJS cats on the catted version. Cost is really good compared to other x pipes, especially the catted version.

I don't have any real data on people running this midpipe, so its kind of a gamble. The formula sounds right. I haven't installed it yet, so I cant say if it delivers in real life.

Only drawback so far is they claimed they were going to put the cats in the secondary position, but put them in the primary position.

I'm trying to replicate the below setup. To me this is the best s65 exhaust note I've ever heard.
It's using a ESS x pipe plus a corsa rear. I already have a corsa rear, and I suspect pairing it with the valvetronic x pipe should yield a similar result. Already sounds great with test pipes.

Ha, bimmerworld style + catted secondary x pipe is exactly what I've been looking for too! Bummer on the cats moving to the primary. Trying to get away from clamps though too. Would love to know how it turns out!

I'm heavily debating the Bomiz catted x pipe. Basically the same as RPK, but much cheaper. No idea what cats they use through. Anything is better than nothing though.

The x pipe is no longer for sale. Due to some issues with the valvetronic x pipe, I'll be keeping my current one. I'll go into details at a later date.

Hey all, I'm now able to go into details about what happened with the valvetronic x pipe. I've posted a detailed review here, give it a read if you are curious:

I have this exact setup. It does sound pretty great. Catted ESS X-pipe with Corsa rear section.

Can you do me a favor? Can you measure the resonator length and diameter on the ess x pipe?

Also- since this is difficult to capture on video, how loud would you describe that setup when you are on it?

I'm still using test pipes, and will probably stay that way, but you never know. The ESS x pipe is out of production, and the bimmerworld one seems to be pretty raspy. Possibly due to the difference in the x design (full x vs kiss like ess) and I think the resonators are shorter on the bimmerworld one.

I might have something custom made at some point, but would love to know how loud the ESS Corsa combo was under load.

When the Corsa was paired with the valvetronic x pipe, it was WAY too loud under load for my tastes. Test pipes seems to be the goldilocks setup in terms of volume, just right.

Also if you are ever in the seattle area I'd love to hear this setup in person.

I’ll try to get some measurements for you.
Volume is subjective, but it nicely straddles streetable but you’re able to hear it. It’s pretty quiet with the windows up. But the m3 is well insulated. Sounds awesome with the driver window cracked.
I don’t know if I’ll be up in the Seattle area, but HMU if you come down to Vancouver. I’m happy to show it to you.

Edit: one cool feature about the setup is it sounds pretty gnarly at idle. Super deep. I’ll try to upload a video.

Double Edit: OP, send me your email and I’ll send you some vids.
