I have the Schroth quick fit pro - they are awesome. They keep you firmly locked in, and you get to keep your comfy stock seats.

Wow what a vid... wtf was he doing? Is his arm out the window too as he's cutting the corner? Tracking cars is scary, motorcycles are way safer

They had super karts at the track yesterday...looked pretty fun and less mass to bang together! They were probably much faster than our cars too. |

Yes I was there and in the same run group as the Mclaren that wrecked (one car between us), the R8 hit my friend's car, and 370z went flying near someone else I know.

Is the club really that big of a joke? Been getting a lot of discussion on Facebook amongst the local HPDE guys and the consensus seems to be that the club is way too relaxed and doesn't give a shit about anything.

In terms of relaxed, they definitely allow us to push harder than an org such as BMW CCA, PCA, or HOD would allow. With this allowance, some bad behavior happens once in a while. Those cases usually would be someone who buys a very fast car and somehow decides to register in a run group they don't belong in. That gets stopped and people are moved to another run group. In my time over many (20+ track days) with them from novice through low intermediate, high intermediate, slow advance, and fast advance, I'd say it is usually very well under control. speedsf has been pretty good in my experience. i've tracked with them several times at laguna seca and sonoma and haven't experienced anything sketchy.
the closest i've come to really disliking certain cars being on track with intention, is at a speedventures event at laguna seca. if i remember correctly, it was at a 105db day, so everyone's noisy racecars were there. like some other organizers, they had their miscellaneous "challenge" series going (multiple at one time, in various sessions, throughout the day) and they had some radicals racing. if i had to guess, these things were running in the low 1:20's. if you're running in the low 1:40's range, about three of them would be passing and then lapping you at least once during a 20 minute session. it was just annoying, they blew the doors off of everything out there and just didn't belong.

Track forum general chit chat.
May not always be the club. I'd be more concerned if this happened on a regular basis. Accidents happen. But hard to say from a distance. Internet and reality don't always match. Rumors fly around from people who don't know.
Could very well be that the racing team begged the DE org to run. Despite the DE org warning them, they didn't. I've witnessed this scenario at one time, organizer vowed to never do it again. Doesn't make the DE org bad. Also, I've seen plenty of positive comments on a DE org here in this forum that was started by essentially stealing money from a trusted partner. I will never mention which one over the internet but we can chat in person if you're curious. In the world of track days...fact and internet often don't match. Blame the lawyers.

Lost a tiny bit more weight over the weekend... titanium license plate hardware, aluminum license plates frame (I know no frame is lighter, but I still gotta look good), and titanium strut brace hardware.

Just gonna say... not all racing teams are bad at mixing in with HPDE. One brought their AMG GTR out and they were safe drivers.

Here's their latest response to the incident:
https://www.facebook.com/reardenraci...52964428151235 These paragraphs are fucking ridiculous and show how they're a bunch of assbags. Their story doesn't match the video evidence AND their own videos are suspiciously corrupt/cameras weren't turned on: When you take a car, race or street, on track you need to be financially prepared to write it off. Most with more than a few days of track driving have added to the story of once great cars. We often remind those wanting to take their nice street cars on track. You can purchase on-track insurance if you choose. On track contact is a no-fault situation as related to damages. Drivers do not pay for damage to cars other than their own. Be glad of this fact, otherwise those of us with Miatas and Nissans could never be on track, because we would inevitably run into a Ferrari. The waiver one signs when entering a race track addresses this. Next time you are at the track, stop by and say hello. Don't be scared, it will all work out. And if you are scared of it working out, then definitely stay home.

What a bunch of idiots. So that means they can drive irresponsibly and destroy other peoples property? Sounds like the organizers really messed up letting them in TBH, I wouldn't want to share a track with anyone who has that attitude. |

I do agree that there is an inherent risk of catastrophic damage that you need to be aware of, but that doesn't give other drivers in a non-competitive event any excuse to be reckless.

That's the difference...HPDE wouldn't exist if everyone needed to show ready to put it into the wall. The opposite is true - HPDE allows drivers to learn at a pace where you don't have to learn everything the hard way.
