Looks like we had yet another one of those incidents. It seems to be becoming more common. Overpasses need heavy duty fences with barb wire and have heavy duty steel nets to catch falling debris. Must be some stupid teenagers who think it's funny to commit murder.

What I dont understand, did they threw the boulder from that overpass that already had that huge fence?

I also think its usually teenagers but I wonder if they realize its comitting murder. Maybe they're too stupid to realize no one survives a crash with a boulder at that speed.

Yea they tossed it over the fence. Which is easily at least 9ft. So they were either pretty strong or used a step to do it. Completely intentional to hurt or kill.

It is almost 100% always this. Kids who do this type of thing really are TOO stupid to understand the damage they can do. It's really sad that kids these days don't have the common sense to understand what could happen/consequences from their actions.

They just had to lift it to the top of the fence and then it would drop over on its own and fall to the freeway below. Depending on how it fell it could get past or bounce off any barriers or fencing. Do a google search and you'll see dozens of other incidents. This just happened on Tuesday in my neck of the woods.

Yea maybe. My brother lives right off Lake. Unfortunately he sees little douches throw shit on the freeway fairly often

Anytime I see kids on overpasses while on the freeway I get on edge, and watch to see if they dare try to throw anything as I go past.

I went to school with a couple of people who did time for manslaughter for this exact thing by killing a tractor trailer driver. I can't remember the particulars, but if my memory is right one had just turned 18 and got a substantial amount of years and the other 2 were teens who got less time.

I literally had a large boulder or rock made of something heavy that landed on my hood (a previous car I owned) and bounced off while driving. Not sure what it was or if it was from an overpass. Left a deep but not very wide dent on my hood. It wasn't very noticeable unless you look at it closely it was made by something heavy. Thank God it didn't hit my windshield. Just a fraction of a second later and that could have been the case.

My wife and I were discussing that very thing the other day. Violence was taken out of the home so the kids took it to school in our reasoning. Obviously not literally, but there appears to be a component of corporal punishment that translates to youth respectful of life and valuable to society.

As an aside, most people falsely believe they can’t use corporal punishment on children when there are actually very few laws on the books in the US prohibiting it. The laws just make specifications so one doesn’t go overboard.

They literally cant defend themselves anymore at school, so no wonder some of them snap

(To be fair when I was caught fighting at school the principle beat us both with his shoe, but that definitely wasn't in America)

Obviously abusing kids is just as bad as time outs and trying to be their friend, kids who are beaten rather than punished are also likely to be violent in return. My mom spaked me, my wife's parents were even more old school 3rd world with their kids and none of us turned out bad, but kids who got wwhipped, belted etc usually had serious anger issues
Agreed and same here.

So.. you were given corporal punishment at home, and so was your wife, and both of you turned out fine... yet you come to the conclusion that kids given corporal punishment “usually” have serious anger issues? Growing up I feared my parents, my wife too, my brother in law too, my cousins too, my friends too, and they (and I) all turned out fine, upstanding citizens who wouldn’t dream of doing stuff like that article - I’m still looking for the conclusive proof that corporal punishment at home equates to angry criminal kids. Considering the increase in criminal kids today who have zero respect for authority, I would argue to opposite - if a kid knows that their only punishment is to get “grounded” with their PlayStation, TV, phone and Internet, why on earth would they ever believe that punishment is bad? Then when they grow up and are incarcerated, they get angry because for them it’s a rude awakening.

Too many parents today want to be friends with their kids first, parents second. They claim that their free range, let em do what they want style, is creating independent free thinkers. I believe that they are actually just shirking their responsibilities as parents for an easier path in the home. Being a parent is hard work, and parents today too often don’t want that hard work (afterall, they do have a game of candy crush to win).

Thanks,

S.

nothing new,

in the late 90's in the UK
a telecom engineer, had a piece of concrete thrown over an overpass, killed outright.

Scared my folks as my job at the time was same as his, and I worked in a similar area/region

Can't remember if the perps where caught.

Probably got told off, and sent to a comfy prison to talk about there daddy issues

This is really sad. Poor family left behind. Goes to show that people will use anything they can to hurt and/or kill others. If that tall of a fence is not good enough, maybe one of the ones that is a full arch over the walkway? Sad that is even needed.

It did have that arch over the walkway It's often very difficult to idiot-proof something, because idiots are so inventive.
