True, but isn't it possible that the LC2i isn't handling the voltage as well as this new one might be? I say "might" since it hasn't been proven whether it will hold up yet.

In my experience with Audiocontrol devices I can say that they make great active line converters and DSP, but all their bass "enhancement" circuits (Epicenter, AccuBass) suck in late/modern systems.

An LC6i (no AccuBass) would have worked right off the bat in your particular case, but it would have been overkill for this particular purpose (6-channel outputs vs 2-channel outputs).

UPDATE:

I got the new LOC from Technic. So far its working VERY well! I just took a extended drive into work for about an hour and no issues! It didnt catch fire, melt, smell, or anything. In fact, it wasnt even warm to touch.

I actually think this thing sounds WAY better than the LC2. Before, my car sounded "boomy" As of right now, the bass hits and just sounds cleaner to me.

So far so good! I just need a week of driving to see if the bass volume drops lower and lower like it did on the LC2.

I will keep you all posted. And big thank you to Technic!!!

Does anybody know how to get in touch with Technics? I'm looking for the Navone LOC and some of his adapters but he hasn't responded to a PM earlier this week. Maybe he is out of town or just missed it.

No sweat. Take your time. I just wanted to make sure it was the right way to contact you for your harnesses. I can get everything else ready to where I just need the harness and LOC.

Well... My custom LOC melted!!! Argh! This is so frustrating to say the least!

LC2i melted.
Custom LOC melted.

What else can I try? Makes no sense that the lc2i works in other cars and not mine.

I did not expect that passive LOC to last long.

The only suggestion that I can think of is to get either a 2-channel amp or to replace the Kenwood with an XD500/3 and power the underseat woofers as well. Put back the LC2i and let the OEM amp be free from any current load. Then set the LC2i to boost the bass instead of the iDrive/OEM amp.

The idea is to run the OEM amp woofer outputs as low as voltage peaks as possible. I only know of one forum member with a '12 EPS system with an LC2i without problems. It could be possible that your OEM amp is #5 at least in update since 2008, having different woofer outputs specs.

Are you referring to me?
I've had zero issues with my lc2i (touchwood)
Should I take a picture of my knob settings?
Maybe people are boosting some things too much and putting too much load on the lc2is?

I see. I guess ill try and find another amp. I don't see much of the point considering tech is/was using a jl amp with the same issues as me. Plus my eq settings are all flat.

It's upsetting that I might have to try a clean sweep since the harness and lc2 wasn't exactly cheap...

What about disabling one side of the stock amp woofer outputs to the lc2i? I think it was mentioned before. Would that limit the voltage spikes going into the lc2i?

If so do I just disable one side or do I bridge a right side positive with a left side negative?

But as far as I can remember you dont drive your m3 everyday. I do...and I listen to music in it every day. So I probably have a lot more "miles" on my loc than you do.

I would monitor it at the least. Especially since Technic appears to have known it wasnt going to last long to begin with... Sigh!
