The E92 M3 reminds me of this old adage - Growing old is mandatory; growing up is optional.

Our cars may be getting older, but it's not getting less fun.

That’s where I’m at in life these days. My previous car was a gen 2 CTS-V sedan. While it was fun in a straight line, overall it was boring to drive everyday. The only other car that I’ve owned that even comes close to the E9X m3 in that time frame is an IS F.

Exactly, honestly Porsches are really nice cars. Knowing people who own them, they're really well built and are reliable. The only downside is the insane markups.

991 GT3's at 175k+ ? 718 GT4 at 150k+ ? They're nice cars yeah, but I can't imagine paying over MSRP for a 3-4 year old car out of warranty...

100% this. I really want to move up and get a gt3, and I would buy a new GT3 at 160K, but I am absolutely not paying $50K dealer markup to get one.

Hard no.

991.1 GT3 are very appealing, but the engine issue concerns me to pay 130-140K for a car coming up on the end of the 10 yr factory warranty for the finger follower issue.

So, hard no buying a 140K 991.1 with a known engine issue all coming out of warranty.

Also not paying $180K for the 991.2 (6 yr old car) which addresses the finger follower issue.

All around there's just no path to ownership that makes sense to me.

If the market softens where you can get a 991.1 for 100-100K, or 130-140K for a .2 I am in but I doubt it will fall that far. This economic downturn may be setup we need to drive things down...

Had my car for just over 7 years now. Still 0 desire to sell. I actually received a very solid offer on my car during the peak of used car pricing about a year ago. I briefly thought about it then remembered I didn't buy this car as an investment, I bought it to drive it and enjoy it for as long as I can.

It saddens me a little that gas cars will soon be replaced by electric cars as it started happening already. I honestly never imagined this day would come so soon. The e9x M3 is everything that new cars aren't, and that's why I'll be keeping mine forever (or as long as financially possible). I'm not against new tech as I would probably get an electric car as a daily when it's more main stream. But for now I'm plenty satisfied with my ancient e90 328i as a daily and e92 m3 as my fun car.

Maybe when I look at the idrive system. Haha. Still prefer the driving experience. Did drive my friend's F80 one time years back and the tech is cool, like it'll rev match for you, but seemed like it made it less fun.

Well said.

I love this platform and deal with its shortcomings daily. But I still enjoy it every time. It is a timeless car for me but also better built than manny newer cars I have driven. And nothing beats an s65 for me.

I always find these types of posts to be more or less click-bait, a chance for everyone to join in with a self-congratulatory circle jerk. And here I am clicking anyway....

I wonder if the E30 M3 guys ever post this type of silly thing. "Is the E30 M3 getting old?" Maybe 20+ years ago they did....

Probably a dwindling pool of original owners. But every now and then you find one who left, trued 1 or more supposedly better cars, and came back. I enjoyed my 10 years, but have no regrets about moving on. If I had space for a collection, I would have an E46 M3, E9x M3, and E6x M5/6 as occasional drivers.

F90 M5. I am 10 years older, too, and wanted more space, more comfort, more practicality for hauling stuff, and AWD for putting the power down better and for snow driving (had snow wheels for the E90 and have snow wheels for the F90).

Congrats. Gobs of power and different driving experience with the F90. I've had my E90 for 8+ years (bought preowned), but still hanging on...

10.5 years of ownership, drive it maybe 2k miles a year at this point - all pleasure miles and doesn't feel too old. 58k miles on the chassis. If you have the ability to own one and a daily driver, it's a perfect setup. Only real upgrade to me from the M3 is a GT3, but I wouldn't sell my M3 to get it.

I am in pretty much the exact same boat - 2011 e92 Comp 6MT purchased as a 2nd owner in Oct 2012. I was getting restless and looking at a GT4, but came to the conclusion that my 65k mile M3 is a classic. Old enough to have hydraulic steering, a NA motor and a MT. New enough to have bluetooth audio that works great and pretty much any creature comfort I need. I'd love a GT4, and my wife approved the transaction, but I don't feel right spending the cash to get one.

I also gave up racing about 10 years ago (SCCA and NASA), but if I was going to get back into driving on the track I'd go straight back to Spec Miata. The cost is unbeatable. If somebody wanted to fund my GT4 for track driving I'd be down with that... but out of my own pocket I'd stick with the very robust Spec Miata platform (or something a bit spicier with more of an improved touring spec).
