BMW Corrosion Warranty?
Was wondering if anyone had experience claiming BMW Corrosion Warranty?
Have a very rusted rear subframe and was hoping to have that taken care of using the warranty.. 09 M3 so it would expire next year. Any input would be highly appreciated! |

I've read the warranty itself and it basically requires rust to cause holes in the body panels. I don't think the rust on the subframe will work. But, it doesn't hurt to ask.

Don't waste your time.
I have four y.o X4 under warranty, and they refused to take care of corrosion on my rims. They stated that the rims are in an aggressive environment, and it is not covered by warranty. when I asked how is it different from the rest fo the body, they were not able to elaborate |

I just talked to a service advisor friend of mine at BMW about some rust on my rear subframe & brake hardlines (the ones I haven't gotten around to replacing yet.) His exact words were, "I don't think this is something that would be covered" -- and he typically tries his best to help me out in whatever way possible when it comes to warranty claims and stuff like that. Odds are slim unless your subframe is literally falling apart in my opinion. Worth a try though if you have the time to make an appointment and take it in!

It's not for under carriage components. It's for body panels, and only if it's perforated and original paint, not caused by stone chips etc. They are seldom approved... And zero chance your subframe will be even looked at.

bmw actually called and asked to elaborate on my appt lol..after explaining the advisor said he didn't know what warranty i was talking about
already a great start but he did say to bring in documentation to show the warranty so i downloaded the warranty manual from bmw my rear subframe is near rotting and wouldn't be surprised if it cracked in the next year or so tbh so hoping that gives me some leverage. planning on doing the swap after the winter anyways |

The subframes visually corrode on the surface, but are extremely strong. They don't crack from rust.
There are countless E9X cars with over 200k miles on them with no structural subframe issues due to rust, and in being around these cars since they launched, I've never heard of one being replaced due to surface rust. Do let us know how your attempt goes though!

While it ain't pretty, I've seen worse. I daily drove an E90 that had seen 165k miles and 12 years of salted Canadian winters. While the subframe had ample surface rust, it does not affect it structurally. It was lowered and driven like a rented mule. No cracks, no issues. You've nothing to worry about.

Yep. That's nothing. You should have seen my fj80 land cruiser that spent its like here in MA. Maybe slap some POR on it to slow the speeding. It will be a very very long time before that rust does any real damage.

If/when the bushings go just have it restored. Material expands with oxidation and looks horrible but in reality the structure is 98-99% solid. I've read a lot of posts where dry climate cars show rust here because the finish wasn't robust like one would assume or hope.

They weren't finished that great from the Factory, mine was covered in slag and the paint oxidized quickly for a piece that isn't exposed to sun. It's a beefy member though. I gave it a quick rattle can jobby with a heavy sanding when I pulled it to change the bush. Came out good with some VHB chassis paint.
