Unkown warning icon???
Last week I drove from Toronto to northern Quebec. Somewhere around Sundridge or Powassan (south of North Bay) the warning gong on the car goes off and a large snow flake appears in the central display where the odometer is normally located. It stayed on for about 10 seconds and went away.
Later, when I got to Val d'Or, I found that the i-drive was warning me about the outside temperature (-3 to -7) every time I started the car up. I have been through the manual from front to back and can find no mention of these warnings or the icon. The snowflake symbol only appears to indicate the a/c button. Were they just telling me that it was cold out and icing may be a problem? Powassen would have been about where the temp went below freezing on the way up. All above ^^^ is correct the car is just alerting you that the ambient temperature has changed ... it is very handy when you are driving near the freezing point and the roads are wet, so be on guard my friend. Just a friendly safety warning with complements of BMW engineers.

Not a snowflake its a throwing star. Beware of Ninjas!
As the others mentioned approaching freezing. I am not sure my wife has ever noticed it on her X5. On my RRS it comes on at +5 instead of +3 |

It's a bit annoying as it gongs! all the time when it gets cold, but after a while, you get used to it...

Yes, first BMW, and since it was new this summer it's the first time I have experienced driving it through and below 0°C.
