E93 Exhaust Install

Hi guys,

Need some help removing my stock exhaust on my E93. The reinforcement bars under the car are blocking me from removing the exhaust.

I assume these need to be removed to get it off but just want to be 100% sure before messing with the chassis support. Can anybody confirm this?

Also, what would be the torque specs for the bolts?

That DIY doesn't explain the reinforcement bars for the E93. I was able to remove the 5 nuts in the center mount where the bars meet. This should provide you with enough space to slide the connecting pipes through, as the bars are pretty flexible. Doing this shouldn't mess with the chassis. Not sure about the torque specs but those nuts were on pretty tight for me. Nothing a 1/2" ratchet couldn't undo though.

I just removed and installed an exhaust on my E93 M3 this weekend. You should not need to remove any of the reinforcement bars under the diff etc... to do the install/removal.

Hmm, well I followed the DIY link above leaving the rubber links attached to the exhaust and found it impossible to get the "connecting pipes" where the heat shields are around the rear diff.

Could you explain how you did it?

I unhooked the exhaust from the rubber mounts first...

Ok got this done today. So I decided just to remove the cross-bars first before removing the exhaust. For future E93ers, to remove the cross-bars you'll need a 17mm & 18mm socket to go along with the 13mm socket that you'll use later for removing the exhaust hangers.

I first loosen all the bolts before putting the car up on ramps. I was surprised how easy they were to loosen, I used a 1/2" drive breaker bar but I probably could have gotten it loose with just a ratchet.

There are 4 17mm bolts and 1 center 18mm bolt that meet near the rear diff. Next to each rear wheel is a 13mm bolt and then another 18mm bolt underneath both sideskirt.

Once everything's loose and the car is on the ramps you can remove all the bolts under the car. Then you can pull each bar out from the undercarriage panel and begin removing the exhaust.

After you install your new exhaust just bolt everything back up and you're good to go. I used a small stool to hold the bars up under the diff while I bolted everything up.

On a side note - I'm more than pleased with how my modified OEM exhaust turned out. It sounds ridiculous with the top down. All vert owners should do this mod ASAP. This and the spacers should be mandatory.

i been working on this for almost 3 hours.... i unable to get the exhaust out.. it think the reinforcement bars is really blocking it, anyone remove their oem exhaust from a e93 without removing their reinforcement bars?
