It is crazy to buy the same car with MT and DCT variant
I saw the following car on carvana and placed an "order". I have the same car with MT. Beside DCT, the carvana car has heated seats, M performance exhaust (from what I can tell from the back pictures) and light blue seats (I am sure they have a proper name for that color). I cannot tell if it has the enhanced sound system like my current one.
Am I crazy to own the same exact car with 2 different transmissions? Idea is to daily drive one and store away another. https://www.carvana.com/vehicle/1684854 |

Yes Only because you asked.
Daily the manual. Strip the DTC and build a track car.

I was thinking about doing this but the running cost wasn't worth it to me unless you're tracking one of them. I had an e93 m3, purchased an e90 m3. Was going to keep the e93 for the weekend (beauty of California weather) and e90 as a daily. In the end, I sold the e93.

I don't think it's THAT crazy. I own a 6MT and sometimes wish I had a DCT as well. But at the end of the day I would probably get something that is slightly different in DCT just to check two cars off the list at once.

It does have M Performance Exhaust, the interior is Palladium Silver. Cheap stereo!

Not crazy to own two but I would definitely opt for a different car to get variety. |

Good idea. Problem is I love driving spiritedly and love taking to twisties/canyons. I would love to track but not my own cars

Carvana supposedly allows 7-day, 400 miles and can return. The idea is to live with both the cars over couple of days. It may happen that i reach a conclusion sooner. Pictures on carvana does not tell me much. Seeing the car in person, an initial test drive should tell me a lot.

I used to have a DCT M3 a few years ago and thought it was a lot of fun. Like you said, the downshift and rev match are really cool. It also really pairs nicely with the S65 engine and makes it so much easier to stay in the upper revs. At the same time, I do love the engagement of my 6MT so I wouldn't want to give that up either. So I guess if I had an unlimited budget and tons of space I wouldn't mind having both cars. EDIT: The wife factor is also a good point. Mine doesn't drive stick (yet). |

I have both, e92 2011.75 aw/fr cf roof in manual with low miles and picked up a e90 aw/fr dct. If you’ve driven both manual and DCT, you’ll know the pros and cons of both.
You’ll never be able to shift as fast as the dct and putting it in auto “D” mode around the metro nyc area is priceless during traffic. In all fairness, if I had a dct as my first e9x m3, I would want the manual simply for the pure driving experience you wouldn’t get from the dct. Keep in mind the manual in the e9x m3 is mediocre at best(flame suit on), soft, sloppy but it’s expected out of a BMW IMO. The dct while you don’t have the 3rd pedal and the rowing of a manual, it definitely rewards you not only with the sound and high rev nature of these cars but the snappiness of the dct is something to be felt vs the manual. Downshifts in mdm mode is also something I appreciate more in my dct but that can be subjective when I drive the manual back to back with the dct. Both amazing nonetheless. At the end of the day, it’s preference of what you want/need to have in a car. For me, I needed both in my life, not only dct and manual but coupe and sedan. |

I enjoy owning both.
E92 DCT, E90 6MT I always have another manual car around and never really felt right until I picked up a E90 M3 6MT. Nothing couldn't fit the need as well as another S65 did. This is after having an E39 M5, E46 325ci 5MT, Z3 Coupe 5MT, E93 328i 6MT, E46 M3 6MT vert then most recently an E38 w/S62 6MT swap. S65 FTW.

You are right about the manual, I do sometimes blame myself of not shifting it correctly or not able to make the best out of the car. |
