No secret method. Just practice until u get muscle memory and it becomes second nature. With my last car I daily drove it and rev matched every downshift for 5 years and even then I don't dare to claim I was 100% consistent.

Yup. Practice all the time. Challenge is it's a little obnoxious on the street but low RPMs are harder than on the track. Pick a throttle setting and stick with it.

Yea consistent, perfectly smooth heel-toe downshifts are much easier on track than on the street.

Practice makes perfect. I have been driving manual transmissions for 29 years and I still am no where near to 100% on rev matching!!! Plus I just realized I am getting old...

thanks, guys
yeah, i daily drive the M3 so i'll keep at it i didn't really care too much as i'm just driving by myself 99.9% of the time but a couple of months ago, I met up with a fellow forum member to check out his car and got a ride around the block he was rev matching like a pro so i got self conscious and have been making more of an effort to get better at it i can usually hit 4th to 3rd fine or good enough most of the time but do you guys bother to rev match from 3rd to 2nd? i will usually just not rev match and keep the clutch in as i'm slowing to a stop but if i need to still keep moving for a bit, i'll try rev matching but that downshift to 2nd is tricky

First, practice dropping down gears without slowing. Look at the tachometer and decide what you need to hit to drop into the next great.
Clutch in, shift, blip to target rpm then release. As you get more comfortable, blip while downshifting until it's all within the same second. You'll find at low speeds 6 to 5 is only 500 rpm, and 5 to 4 is 750. Practice those as they're easier than 3 to 2 and less attention seeking. Once you can downshift without looking at the tach. Then add braking.

It's a little bit easier with Sport Plus mode in the M setting I would not recommend Sport Plus mode on the track though. Last edited by ruff1017; 11-24-2020 at 07:30 AM.. |

Your tires - Mich PS 4S....but that "suede" part goes around the whole face of the tire. Is that the latest version?
