The m3 I completely understand as clearly there is a significanat departure on many fronts for the new m3.
On top of having EPS, the engine will also be different. it will no longer be a Mezger engine (google it if you want more info), which was derived from the GT1 race car. Race proven, bullet proof, and unfortunately, history.

Thus why my one and only Porsche car will be a 997.1 Turbo. The last of its kind.

The GT3 is great car. I'm always debating selling it or keeping it though. its a great track car but not as fun as racing. its a great street car, but M3 is better at that. I think the 991S is best of both worlds currently. maybe time to switch it up.

next GT3 will likely only be offered with PDK (dual clutch) and will have a dry sump version of the current 9A1 motor. nothing wrong with that. but i have a feeling next RS is going to really be game changer. I think flat-8 3.9L. Dry Sump. True racing motor. keep eye out for 2014 RSR. that will be it.

You obviously know your stuff about Porsches and 911's (and own one, I'm jealous), but no way I'd ever trade a 997 GT3 for a 991S, even if it can keep up with the 997.

Is that for sure? I have a hard time believing they'll completely stop offering MT. Haven't really been following closely, but if a flat 8 on the RS is even a possibility, you've got my attention

I've heard different. The GT3 should maintain a Manual transmission. The PDK might, however, be an option.

No one really knows though until Porsche announces it

Great article by the way.

Not too mention the fact that it will no longer be only offered with a third pedal. Rumors are the the car will only be offered in PDK for the first production run.

I disagree that they will do away with the manual GT3, but it looks like the car is going to be launched with just PDK at first.

Riviera is a tad lighter than Mexico.

Mezger lives on. The 991 GT3 RSR carries the Mezger engine rather than the tweaked 9A1 in the new GT3. What does that say? Other than the infamous RMS leak, Mezger is bullet proof.

It's def an end of an era. Turbo M3 and GT3 w/ PDK and electric steering.

This is a great article, as most of Evo's are. A rare plug - Evo is the best car magazine out there and the interactive iPad versions is much less expensive and more engaging than the print version (I had a paper subscription for years before switching to the iPad version a year ago).

Back on topic. End of an era indeed. I'm keeping my "end-of era" E39 M5 and E86 M coupe, but am looking to add another car. My main contenders include one new (1M or upcoming M2) and one old (997 GT3). I've had extensive seat time (approximately 4 weeks total) in a 1M and must say it is a VERY fun car, a poster child for the "new." I've only had 2 test drives in a GT3, but man...what a car, what a feel. For street driving, the 1M is likely better, but the GT3 feels like none other. I'm not in a rush and am savoring the decision.

Wonderful cars in this thread. I love the grey GT3 RS - well done, sir. In terms of the 991 GT3, from what I've read I'd be shocked if both a manual transmission and PDK are not both offered. Every year brings yet another nail into the coffin of my beloved manual transmission. Adapt or perish...

Its more of a GT3 obsession.

The GT3 in this vid is the actual car in the EVO article.
