Speed Secrets Podcast

Ross Bentley has an interesting PodCast out this week:

https://speedsecrets.com/speedsecrets-podcast/

He talks with one of the engineers from Simpson (Trevor Ashline) that developed the Hybrid S. When they start talking about OEM systems vs. race systems, Trevor said when they tested the Hybrid S with an OEM three point, they couldn't test it to the same level as they do for race cars because the OEM systems are not designed to handle that much stress and that they'd fail. He says that they are engineered around a 30 mph crash. Ross asks him if using a HNR with an airbag is helpful and Trevor states that it can actually be beneficial because in a faster crash, the airbag might not have enough time to fully deploy so if the HNR slows your head down, it might give the airbag time to fully deploy.

It's funny because all I've ever heard was that the OEM systems where better than some of the hybrid setups some people use (QFP w/HNR, 6 point system but no roll cage, etc) but that might not really be the case.

It's definitely worth a listen.
