Closed my trunk while the batteey was disconnected. what do i do :/

Hey guys, so I was installing extended paddles and I closed the trunk while the battery was disconnected. I have no pass through and I have a 2010 so I don't have a key hole on my trunk. O tried jumping it from the front since the negative terminal was still connected but that didn't work. Any idea if there is a mechanical switch to get in? Any help here! :/

When you hook up a jumper battery were you able to get enough juice to press the trunk unlock button at least?

This is just a guess but if the positive battery terminal is not resting up against metal in the truck you might be able to put a charger or jumper cables on the positive terminal and ground under the hood. This may then allow you to press the trunk release and get inside the trunk. Hope all works out well for you.

**Looks like you may have tried this already and if so I am not sure why it would not work.**

Sorry to hear about your situation. Maybe try take apart the trunk pop switch and see if there's a way to pull the cable from there?

There's also a method of powering the trunk pop wire to pop the trunk but that'll involve cutting the wire sleeve

Good luck!

Situations like this make me glad I have a key hole under the trunk lid. If you've already tried jumping and it didn't work, if I were in this situation, I'd remove the rear seat back to pull the day-glow emergency release in the trunk.

On my E90 I have a handled cord hanging underneath the trunk in case you're locked in. I do not know if it is a mechanical latch or not, but if it is, could you go through the back seat somehow to gain entry to the truck and then pull the cord?

Just thinking outloud...don't shoot me if it's a stupid idea.

On your E90, you also have a keyhole on the bottom side the trunk lid that you can use to pop the trunk, provided you haven't moved to the LCI conversion.

And you essentially just repeated what I said right above you

I thought jumping would work, but I have no idea why it wouldn't. Maybe the positive needed to be connected and the negative unconnected? Not sure. Also, I don't have ski hole so I can't get into the trunk and pull the release

You *can* get into the trunk, you just have to remove the rear seat back.

How would I do that in an e93?? My rear seats can fold down, but there is a grey felt wall behind it with a little cubby in it. There are also two insanely long screws going through the felt, so I wasn't comfortable pulling them out unless I knew what they did.

Check out e90post.com In doing a brief search on there, there are mentions of swapping out rear seats on E93s, and mentions of a DIY, as well.

can't you connect an external battery under the hood and then open the roof, and while the trunk lid is open to let the roof in, just connect your own battery?

Assuming it looks like this, looks like there is no way to get into the trunk in a convertible :'(

Yea, well the roof is also electronic, and I can't get power to get any electronics on. I tried jumping the car's front terminal with another car but the car was still dead. Can't open the roof either

did you connect them properly, the correct way, and made sure the terminals were clean and have no contamination? and was the other battery fully charged? i can't see why jump starting the car wouldn't work. then again, I can't see why those Einsteins at BMW would not add a mechanical key in the first place either? How much cost savings did they accomplish?

But you'd obviously want to confirm the wires match up and the whole thing sounds sort of sketchy...

If you're lucky, you have one of the features which will allow you to get access to your trunk. If you're not lucky - I feel your pain.

Here are the solutions that I found from searching.

1) 2008 models and before actually have key lock on the trunk - it's hidden above the license frame. This would have been great, but I have a 2009, so I don't have one.

2) Some models have a trunk pass through which would allow access through which you could pull the manual release within the trunk using a coat hangar or something. My doesn't. (I also spent some time trying to remove the seat backs, but I don't think I could have gotten them out without breaking something because the latches held them in place so securely.)

3) You can apply power to the car from the engine area -there's a big red + and a ground point nearby. Once power is on the car just push the trunk release in the driver's footwell. This is almost certain to work for most everyone. I'm not sure why it didn't work for me, but I'm guessing it has something to do with the fact that the battery was completely removed and the cable were lying loose. That was strike three - I felt like I was out.

4) The only solution that worked for me was to run down the wiring diagrams and locate the "central locking drive, trunk lid" that's the solonoid that actually releases the trunk. Most of the effort was getting the information - the job itself was actually pretty easy. Here it is:

a) Take out the two torx screws just below the glovebox on the left and right to remove the panel below the glovebox. Disconnect the power socket and the light which are attached to the panel.

b) Below the fusebox there is a big flat horizontal junction box (Junction Box A4010). You can spot it easily because there are two big connectors going into it facing you. There is a flat wide connector plugging into the BACKSIDE of this same junction box. There are about a dozen small wires going into it and one big brown ground. This is the one you need to get to. (Connector X14270) Ideally, you'd want to disconnect this, but I could not manage to get it out from that position.

c) Identify the small wire which is gray with a stripe of green (it looks mostly gray). If you get the connector out, this is pin 12. It's the only grey/green wire in the bunch though.

d) You need to very briefly apply 12 volts to this lead to pop the trunk. I did it the ugly way - I very carefully razored off some of the insulation to expose it. Then I just attached some leads to my new battery. I stuck the ground lead into brown wire connector for the power socket I had disconnected when I removed the glove box panel. Then I just brushed the positive lead against the exposed pin 12 wire. The trunk popped instantly.

Now that I know what to do, I'll bet I could do this in 10 minutes. It's really just two screws to remove the pane and knowing which wire to power. I hope no one ends up in such a stupid situation, but if they do I hope this helps.

Yea! So I read through that thread since I'm basically in the same situation. So I just had roadside assistance tow my car to the dealership :'( Hopefully they can do the trunk release wiring trick like Post #4

Thanks for all the ideas guys!

Open the hood, and connect power (charger or similar) to the terminals under there. That should allow you to open the boot
