GTS wing compared to std rear lip spoiler
Hi, does it make sense to add wing to improve rear traction in fast 4th gear turns or even improve acceleration from 3rd gear turns?
This is M4 GTS wing indeed, I think that M3 GTS wing is a bit weird....

Are you feeling the rear end of the car getting loose and stepping out on high-speed corners?

Simply answer: Yes, it will.
There may be other issues at hand that can also help; alignment, damper settings and so on. But in general, additional rear downforce will provide you with more rear end grip - particularly noticeable at higher speeds. |

I would pair it with a GTS-style front splitter so you balance out the aero, but for sure it makes a difference.

My main issue is out of corner acceleration. M3 has more power than grip. It becomes so evident, when driving Porsches sometimes, They have due to rear weight much better out-of-corner traction.

+1, what tires and suspension?
I'm on JRZ RS One + 700/1000 springs + 295 square nankang AR-1 and corner exit isn't bad, it's more understeer than oversteer for my setup. I have a replica GTS wing but it's more of a spoiler than a wing |

If you are oversteering on corner exit, you can do one of the following: 1. soften front rebound damping 2. soften rear compression damping 3. lower rear ride height or increase front ride height 4. soften rear springs 5. add rear downforce This is a bit of an oversimplification but should suffice until we have more information. Everything is about compromises. By adding more rear downforce, for example, you might unbalance the aero and cause the front to wash out (understeer) at corner entry. So to answer your original question: yes, a rear wing will probably help.

When I put a grippy front Cup2 with Rear RR the car indeed oversteer easily when my rear was setup for less grippy front. I took the rear compression down from HS 16 to 6 and front +1 on HS compression and that helped a lot. So if you can adjust your compression, there is a good chance you can control your oversteer. I do have the GTS wing, but my speeds are 110mph - 70mpg and the GTS wing is mostly for over 120mph and counter the lift, rather than actually creating a downforce. |
