PCV ?....is it hidden?

Hi. Am in the process of changing my TA and currently have the plenum off. Since I"m in there, figured I'd change out my PCV valve. However, I can't seem to locate it. If I start tracing back from the oil return hose (the one that connects to the intake)...it disappears around cylinder 5-6 ..

Is the PCV way in the back of the engine? Anyone change it before? Thx.

I didn't know modern cars still had these. I would think you would see it sticking out of the valve cover like they did back in the day..

The crankcase return hose connects to this and the other end connects to the air intake plenum in the front of the car. Problem is if I follow this hose to the back, I lose where it goes at seems to take a nose dive under the cabling near the throttle actuators.

Don't know if this helps, but it's item #2 in this diagram.

Thanks, but yes, I saw that when I ordered the part. The problem is it's probably embedded under the wiring harness under the plenum. I'm hoping someone's replaced their PCV and can provide some pointers on how best to get this out.

What's your reason to replace the pcv?

My car hit 100K mi recently and just did my spark plugs, oil separators, and one of the TA. Figured I hit the PCV (crankcase valve) as well to see if oil consumption can improve. Currently 1500 mi/L.

It not a conventional pcv valve system on the s65: it's a baffle type system in the valve cover that separate the oil vapors and oil droplets.

Hi. Sorry, but I think you are incorrect on this. The baffles are the Oil Separators (qty 2 that we have near Cyl 3-4 and 7-8). -> See the Orange boxes in the picture.

What I'm referring to is the Crankcase Valve. ECS Tuning calls it the PCV but it might be just a breather valve. Sorry I don't have a better pic on me, but on the pic below, the ventilation hose (one circled in yellow) is where it starts (connection to the plenum).

The problem I'm having is I lose where the hose goes as it gets back into the engine block. Am trying to get better info on where the ultimate connection is on the valve to the block (before I randomly start tearing back stuff).

The PCV valve is located on the back side of the engine just behind bank 2 cylinder head.

Thanks Jobe. Can I access it from the engine bay or does the engine need to be lifted to gain access?

Without removing several components from the top/back of the engine you wouldn't be able to get to it. If I remember correctly you would need to remove the engine wiring harness on that side plus the egr hose. It might be accessible from the bottom, but it would be tough considering it is on the topside of the transmission housing.

Depending on the specific design, they eventually wear out. See below photo for a simple explanation.

Obviously, the spring is fatigued over time and doesn't rebound correctly (or at all). The diaphragm can also get jammed or so dirty that it doesn't move enough.

The n65 engine does not have a typical pcv valve: the sytem uses two oil seperators where the valve covers and intake meet. Oil accumulated after this process in the intake goes through the front bottom of the intake and then through the tube discuss before on this topic. After there is a oil drain back valve that brings back the oil in the crankcase.

Ha,ha, OP it would be easier to just replace the entire engine...

Ouch. Looks like it's sitting on top of the EGR valve. Anyone do a DIY on EGR removal? Is it even possible from inside the engine bay?

Is there only one PCV valve for the 2008 V8 E92?
