New E92 M3 owner crossed over from a C6 Z06.

Hey fellas,

Just wanted to post up about my new to me M3 that I recently purchased. I bought the car about three weeks ago now and absolutely love it.

I test drove my first M3 back in August and posted up then asking questions you can see that thread here if you're interested.

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1160830

So about the car.

It's a 2010 E92 AW/Black w/ DCT it had every single option I wanted and I think the only options it didn't have was the cold weather and extended leather but it does have heated seats which is nice.

I purchased it was 50K miles which was a little more than I wanted and I also wanted MW originally but this car called to me it had every option I wanted.

It has a few tasteful mods.

- M Carbon Splitters
- M Spoiler
- M Performance Exhaust
- Powdercoated stock wheels

Other than that it's completely stock.

I would like to install Evolve test pipes with a tune and get some M carbon mirror covers though.

There are a couple concerns obviously the rod bearings. I don't really hear any engine noise but what are the signs? Also when I have the DCT set on 4 or 5 it squeaks when shifting after researching the issues seems like it could be the belt slipping.

The brakes are warped but I've been looking up rotor prices and I see each rotor costs around $350 each!

I'm sure many of you are thinking why I decided on the M over another Z and what my impressions of each are. I've owned several C5 Z06 and C6 Z06.

I wanted a car that I could drive everyday but could still be fun to drive and attracted attention. The Z was a fun weekend car to blast down the street or get on the track with but that's it. The car in terms of quality especially the interior is a huge let down.

The M isn't as fast that's known but in every other category it blows it away. I feel like there are no corners cut with the M and it is such a pleasure to drive everyday. The quality and fit and finish of the M3 is amazing. I no longer feel like I'm driving something that was put together with push pins and Popsicle sticks. It can be mild mannered but as soon as I turn on "M" mode it can be a blast. I find excuses to drive the car I've already logged over 1500 miles in three weeks! The Z06 was only nice to drive if I was hauling ass. The M3 is a great car and I am extremely happy I made the jump from the Z06.

Also if anyone is wondering the M3 gets so much more attention than the Z06 ever did.

Also interesting story about the purchase, I was going to buy another C6 Z06 and was actually scheduled to go pick up a 2008 Z06 the weekend before I bought my M3 but I decided to jump on Craigslist and have another look around before bought another car. I searched for "M3" and the car I purchased was just posted and the rest was history.

Congrats! I actually had a C6 base and have been looking for almost exactly the same car as yours, but a 2011 and haven't had much luck lately. Been thinking of picking up a C6 Z06 instead. Have always wanted one.

I do agree with you though, besides the speed, the M is just huge improvement in almost everything else. Feels like you're driving something special. Just the steering wheel between the 2 is a huge difference. But considering how low and wide the Z is, it's pretty special too.

Congrats and enjoy it in good health man.

I love the DCT and the way it sounds with the downshifts simply amazing.

Your rotors are not warped just get them resurfaced. Most likely pad deposits.

Congrats with your new car! Good choice! There certainly are faster cars around, but the E92 M3 just feels special.

I've been several times in Italy testing Ferrari F430 and lastly 458 Speciale. The last time I drove my M3 to get there and it was the first time it was not a big let down getting back in my own car The versatility of the M3 is just fantastic. Enjoy your new ride!

Good point. There is a free fix which is warming the brakes up first, and then doing a bunch of hard stops in a row from 70+mph until you feel the pedal get a little soft.

This will get the pad deposits off if that’s the cause of the vibration.

I have to do this every couple months on mine although aftermarket brake kit but the concept is the same.

Z06Mike,

Wow, I just did the same thing. Went with an '11 E90 though. Previous vehicle was an '09 C6Z06 with A&A supercharger kit. I miss the brute power of that car and it's acceleration, but really enjoy driving the M3.
