Doubt we will see these on the market anytime soon. Theres no airbags in the seats even.
Obviously they didn't put airbags in them...that would spoil the weight savings, I'll take two without airbags immediately, please.

Seat can't come to the U.S. without a thorax airbag. Note difference between ROW Porsche seats and the heavyweights for the U.S. market.

Not going to happen....

how much weight savings do you think the trunk and seats could shave?
trying to get an understanding on how m3's are weighted. Do they specify the base model? or well equipped?

Wondering cause I have few options on my m3, and after taking her to the track a few times now, Im glad I dont have any of the features. Now im looking at my heavy leather seats thinking about how much they weigh.

Guess if you had them in a coupe you'd prob not have (due to half roll cage) or don't care about access to the rear seats given these are non reclining

Why isn't BMW applying this sort of thinking to all of their M cars ? They should all weigh about 200kg less than what they currently do. I would like the M5 to be different but I don't hold out too much hope.

This type of honeycomb sandwich construction is not new. This is very strong and stiff, they use this type of construction in aerospace and Rowing racing shells which take huge loads. Making body panels like this is actually overkill.

My excitement over Bmw's lightweight edition is muted to say the least. Due to DOT regulations these seats will never see the light of day in america. Do any of you have the current performance seats that have been on sale in europe? I'm afraid that these seats will be the same thing. Now if you live in europe you could buy the gts which by all standards will continue to be better than this new lightweight edition.

Really an excellent point. Any M3 special "lightweight" edition will likely never make it to the U.S. officially if for no other reason than the cost to homologate the parts (the seats in particular).

Anyone else think the front splutter may be leaving room for brake ducts?
