Why is tints illegal?
I tried searching the forum. I tried google and nothing so I was wondering.
Why is tint illegal in California? I mean I would think if it was such a big deal it would be illegal in every state... does anyone know the actual reason for the tint law? the only thing I've heard were opinions.

Because tint (if dark enough) will obstruct visibility, especially at night. Rather than argue with millions of motorists, whether or not the degree(%) of their tint is "safe" or not, CA just says NO tint at all. Other possible reason, revenue! BTW, I have tint all the way around!

I been told its for the officers safety when they approach your vehicle.
If the tint is too dark then they dont know who/what they are coming up to. I can respect that but then again when i get pulled over i put my windows down before the cop even gets out of their car. Yet i still get a ticket. Price to pay to have them.

I was hear about "officer Safety" as well. Another reason I hear is that it's a safety issue for yourself as well. If you can't open your door and need to kick out the window, it's much more difficult, also if the window breaks and instead of shattering, it's one larger piece, it's supposedly more dangerous... or so I've heard. I don't know if it's true but that's another reason that I've heard... then again, your front windshield isn't supposed to shatter either... nevermind.

I have 15% tint all around and it is tough to see out the side windows at night. Pedestrians are especially hard to spot if they creep up from the side.
I fully understand why tiniting the front windows is illegal. However, i still do it because it looks much better.

I have family members serving for the state and county forces. Contrary to the notion of revenue generator, these fix it tickets do very little to assist in government budget. A fix it ticket (if box checked to be fixable) is $10-$20. The bread and butter for CHP is speeding tickets. That's where the money is for the government.
