When one capitulates and decides to get the Rod

Bearing job done, how do you go about finding someone competent and you trust to do it. I'm still on the fence as to the need, the only thing sending me in the direction of getting it done is I have no idea how the car was treated prior to my ownership.

What worries me is that I've read many threads that start with "got my bearings done but now......." This is major work on a very complicated engine. I know for a fact there is no one here in Chattanooga that I would trust, so there's Atlanta, Knoxville and Nashville. Any recommendations in those locations would be appreciated. Can't count on how many times the shop has done the job, need to know how many times the individual techs have done the job, that's a tough ask sometimes.

My M3 runs great, it's going to be a hard thing to get it opened up "fixed" and then put back together again. As you can probably tell, this is a tough decision for me. Money isn't the problem, finding a competent tech is my worry. Thanks in advance for any help/recs.

I'd go to Knoxville and go to European Auto Garage. They do good work and are convenient to Chattanooga.

Know the feeling exactly OP. I researched the RB issue for a long time before I went ahead. When it came to selecting shop it ended with me driving to a shop 250 miles one way outside town (Stockholm) and spending a hotel night. Sthlm certainly have shops but the "M shops" I spoke with did not give me the right level confidence and feel.
Keep searching till you find that guy you want to work on your car.

I did the same, but drove 200+ miles one way to have deansbimmer do mine as his shop is super reputable here.

Me too, drove from San Jose to LA (350 miles) to have MRF do the work. There were some local shops that I probably would have been happy with but it was worth the drive.

Yeah, if we only had a Deansbimmer or MRF around here...

I was pleased with TrueAutomotive in Lawrenceville, Ga (Atlanta area). They used the VACMotorsports kit, were very professional, and provided adequate documentation. It’s been 10k miles since the service and no issues to-date.

I drove from Ohio to Michigan to have mine done based on availability and research on the Shop and Tech that work on my car....its the peace of mind and also investing in long term investment and many more miles of joy. IMO its worth it for me. Goodluck with your decision.

If you are mechanically inclined at all, you can do it yourself. SYT_Shadow has a great DIY post. The job is not hard, just time consuming. What you save in labor will more than cover the cost of a really good torque wrench.
