I'd love to get out to one of these sometime. I got up that way for a nice drive back in October. From Atlanta up Blood Mountain, up 28 to Fontana, through the Dragon and looped all the way around to Tellico Plains and came back through the Skyway before heading back home.

Crazy crazy rain on most of the Skyway but still a good drive.

I used to go up a lot with my S2000 and some other friends and the best time is always early morning and Tue-Thur if possible. You'll see a LOT less traffic during the week even in the nicest weather months. Weekends are typically so busy during peak season it's not even worth the drive.

The FB group North Georgia Mountain Driving has had several drives at TotD in recent months, but I long for an event that draws 20+ e9x M3's.
Staging our gathering in the bad weather months (around Thanksgiving) has worked out in the past. One year it was rainy, but we had a great gathering anyway. The other three years the weather was cold, clear, and fantastic. An early morning run greatly reduces the traffic issue. We just have to have faith the the weather will cooperate. There are many beautiful days in the Great Smokeys during the cold months. During the warmer weather months traffic will be a much bigger issue. It is still fun but think of it as a social gathering and a chance to meet some other driving enthusiasts.
If there is interest, we can try to organize something for early spring or next Thanksgiving. Comments welcome............

My vote is early spring, because i want to go back there as soon as possible and my wife wont let me drive there in November. I ended up going to mvading the dragon last year. had a lot of fun, good group, i think there were around 80 or more bmw's.

I'm a new m3 owner as well and would love to do the dragon. I've never done it before but spent the last year hunting for a car to do it in. Just picked up this '12 Jerez Black 6spd in anticipation for a mountain run.

Can someone post a link to the proposed route for this meetup? I'm in central VA and curious if any part of it comes through the blueridge parkway or skyline drive. Would love to join for a portion of it since I wont have enough time to travel further south.

In the past there has not been an actual planned route. But we go nowhere near central VA. Hope you can join us but plan on spending a night or two. Tapoco Lodge is highly recommended.

The Tail of the Dragon is an 11 mile stretch of HWY 129 right at the Tenn state line. Typically, the group makes several round-trip passes and if time allows, we venture down Hwy 28 to look at the Fontana dam and over to Robbinsville for lunch. From there we have gotten on the Cherohala Skyway for a different driving experience. Great long-distance scenery. There is also the Joyce Kilmer "Giant Popular Stand" visit and then back on around to Tapoco Lodge and some refreshments. All the roads around this area have wonderful pavement, banking and scenery.

See you on the road.

I'd be interested in going up from Tampa but mvading is overlapping my wife's birthday so that isn't happening.

I have a charity lined up. Sponsors are signing on. Logo is being designed. Will post in Bimmerpost and FB to announce. I was back and forth about it but made the decision to move forward after seeing a post on a little guy in need of support. Perhaps not financially but support nonetheless. I will start a new thread shortly.

Hello, I'm also from the Great Lakes area and am attending Mvading. Depending on where in Indiana, I would be down to caravan.
