One of my OEM halo's just crapped out last week.
Picked up a set of H8 180s and it just got delivered today. Definitely going LUX!

White LED if you want to give it a subtle facelift!
Though personally I'm leaning towards doing the DTM Style rings

OEM halos for me, keeps it "period correct" and looks proper on the E9x M3, as intended.
I myself swapped my LED bulbs back to the stock halogens when one of them crapped out and wondered why I didn't do it sooner. I understand the liking for an "updated" look with LED bulbs or LED rings, but as the car ages, that look will look less appropriate, kind of like seeing a BMW 2002 with xenons. The "period correct" look will stand the test of time much better, especially with your current setup with 359 wheels.

I know it's been mentioned before but other BMWs of the e9x LCI era received white halo rings. It would make sense if BMW had given that treatment to the M3 as well. Who knows why they didn't. So, "period correct" doesn't seem like a strong argument. We get the benefit to choose. Which color balance do you prefer? Neither answer is wrong or right necessarily.

I recently got the adjustable LuxV5 lights, and like how you can adjust the color back to stock if need be but also match the same whitish color of the HID D2S bulbs which is what I ended up doing.
I think the car looks better with the whiteish halo rings and not overdone. |

I went with the GT-LM look and put a set of Piaa H8 Plasma Ion bulbs straight in for a true yellow look ... I had the same ones in my last M3 too

What kills the LED option for me is the LEDs don't seem to be reliable. While the halogens being over-spec'd should last a long long time.
Plus I like the warmth of their color temp- even in the sun

The brownish halogen color works best because it is (A) "period correct" and (B) contrasts well with the 4300k color of the HIDs. Also, it seems like every other day, there is a thread on here about aftermarket halos flickering, burning out, or needing warranty replacement. Not worth the hassle IMO.

This looks neat, but if I was sharing the road with you I would probably hate you. They would probably ruin the vision of everyone around you. [/QUOTE] In the photos the rings look extra bright but it's just very difficult to see the color on a camera unless it is nearly dark when you take the photo. Here is another photo in daylight ... but still shaded

I'm not a huge fan of the OE yellow (for my car). When I get around to changing my headlights, I want to do something like this maybe. Actually, just yesterday I helped/observed a friend change out the rings and self leveling components in his headlights. It was not as scary as I thought it would be, for some reason I have been nervous to pull apart my headlights then bake them in the oven... That being said, I feel way more confident to do it on my own now, so maybe I'll get around to it sooner than originally expected

Why buy an M3 with amber halos to then mod it to look like a run-of-the-mill 3er Series BMW transportation appliance? Might as well turdbrocharge it too for consistency, right?
Oh wait. Different strokes... Nevermind. Enjoy whatever you drive! |
