Yes. When I first purchased the M, I was a bit disappointed in the power for everyday driving. I personally feel the car is lacking about 50lbs torque and 50hp across the entire rev range. It just has too much weight to push around. You have to rev it to the sky, which can feel tiring and straining everyday. Since then, I've been testing a variety of cars to determined whether I put the money towards something else, i.e. GTR, etc or spend the difference on modifying the M3.

I've driven everything from a 430 down to WRX STI to compare. If I decide to mod the M, I will be keeping it for a while.

I still need to drive a C63 though, the autogear box is a big negative for me.

I´ve also driven all of these vehicles many, many times except for the GTR. The C63 is drives great especially straight line and is no slouch through corners as some may say although I find the M3 chassis an absolutely great platform to mod off of. Structural rigidity, balance, etc... are comparable to dedicated sports cars. The power is an issue with me as well and is why I modded the hell out of it!! Hahaha!! Also took a some weight off and improved suspension, brakes and the like. A la GT3 so to speak.

If I decide to go this route, this is the exact same strategy I would take. Take it into my own hands to build what BMW refuses to build. A "GT3" or "CSL" version of this car. This car really need to lose 200~250 pounds.

With that said, I do feel that the RDSport motor, however great it is, takes away some of that "M"-ness. (The slower revs and slightly lazier engine). I'm not 100 percent sure, if I keep the car, this is the route I would take. I still need to drive one of the FI cars. The downside to FI is the added weight in the wrong areas and engine reliability. However, since FI doesn't change the change where the car makes power, I think the M characteristics will be more intacted. It just amplifies everything.

Sharkwerks in the bay area has a 3.9 liter engine mod for the 997.1 GT3/RS. 510HP, 8900RPM and ~3100 lbs. There's a thread on 6Speed about it. I think you'll enjoy that thread.

Thanks for the review and agree with your assessment in so as far as the general shortfalls of the stock M. I wouldn´t rearlly know if the stroker feels "lazy" since I have not yet driven mine. We will see.

Is that the stock bumper or the RD sport bumper? It looks too good to be OEM.

*edit*

NVM, i just realized it's the RD sport. It's got the dropped jaw/basking shark look. Love it!

Thanks for the posts and great pics.

I agree with your comments above and this has been my biggest complaint about the M3. I am currently leasing my M3 and I don't want to put any money into the car. I am debating a buy of the next car (2011 M3) in one year that I would like to mod. However, I am also up in the air regarding whether the M3 would be on the list unless if BMW were to move to a forced air engine.

Anyway, thanks again for your comments and pics.
