Does the 09 have the upgrade and how can we confirm? I only have 100 miles on my car and it seems to be fine so far; however, I haven't pushed the DCT hard since I'm still in my break in period.

great to hear some more insight on the update.

I wish they would allow you to change to N when you pull both paddles, like the lambos.

OK, you are right I never noticed anything like the lag some others reported, but this is true for quite a few members on this forum, swamp being another which found the lag minimum. The fact is that even my minimum amount has been reduced, which means that this version of the software has improve things to the point were it's almost zero....(remember that I was told the update took between 4~6 hours depending on which updates were required, meaning more than one is out there).

Also some members have said that they required to flick the paddle at 7500rpm to not hit the limiter, I can hold out to 8300rpm with no problems what so ever, clearly this update is a big bonus to the racers out there.

Third and probably the best news with the possible exception of the downshift issue being done away with is the lag from the paddle. I launched the car through 1st, 2nd and 3rd and I had no problems what so ever flicking the paddle at 8300rpm and the gear shifting before any rev limiter was reached. On this the upgrade is perfect.
The best news in the world. WAY TO GO BMW......way to listen to the complaints and fix them This is so AWESOME!!!!

Thanks for the post.

Sorry if I missed something, are we explicitly saying that the update does not address the problem where the downshift is disabled under hard braking?

I am so happy for all the DCT owners that the little SW glitches have now been resolved! Enjoy...

No, I don't think anybody who has had the update has had a chance to check that yet. Not really something that can be checked easily on public roads. I should let footie clarify that statement, but I think he meant that the downshift under hard braking fix would be the best news of all, but short of that, which hasn't been determined yet, the lag in response from paddle shifting has been fixed and that is the best news...so far.

If we are talking a 360 (and not a Challenge Stradale), it would be up to the drivers. Straight line and ring times are fairly close.

Actually Footie is right, the M3 is faster in some acceleration tests than the Ferrari.

How so? The DCT M3 is quicker than a 360.

Maybe you should let go of the crack pipe?

The optimism is nice but not enough folks with enough of the problems that have been found have got the update and had time to see how many of the bugs have been fixed. The no downshift when at/near on limit braking and the stalling seem to be most critical problems and we have no idea if the software fixed those problems.

+2 I never found the "lag" to be an issue, because when I am not "on it" I usually drive in auto, and on track at full throttle the lag is virtually zero anyway so no issue.

I however found the no downshift on braking to be the single biggest issue and have done 4 trackdays with the car like this.

I am getting my software loaded on Thursday and have a track day soon, so will report back my findings.

MysticBlue got my comments 100% right. Maybe you didn't read my original post at the start of the thread.

I look forward to your findings and hope it's an overall fix for all the issues that M-DCT drivers are having.

I went to see my dealer last Friday and inquire about the DCT update. The SA mentioned that he heard about this update but it is still not aviable to them. They check their system but didn't find anything. We just have to wait and see.

Like I mentioned in my previous post.. I test drove the 09 and it seems to be fine. No lag, no downshifting problem.

The update is out. I just picked up my car this morning and the installed the update last Thursday. I was out of town, so I had to get it today.

Basically, everything the OP said is true. Upshifts are FAST now....they are as fast as I EXPECTED the car to shift before I even bought it. They are nearly instantaneous.

Downshifts are also really fast now. I basically have just driven in S6 so far, so no word on D modes, but I expect what the OP said to hold true.

On my way home, the car DID skip second gear again, but it could have been me. I ran through the gears again and was damn sure not to double tap and I could not replicate.

I tried one last time and ended up getting my first speeding ticket in 10 years. LOL. Phuckers. lol. Whatever.

All in all, it appears to be a HUGE improvement.

One thing I did notice though.......on the freeway, when flooring it and shifting from 3 to 4 (for example), it does not BANG hard like it used to, rather, it almost feels like the clutches are sliding a bit. Maybe it was me...maybe the tranny was not all the way up to temp, etc. hard to say, but I noticed a difference. I don't think it is a bad thing, just an observation. Around town, it fricken GETS IT HARD. Major wheel spin in 2nd....so far I love it! Minus the speding ticket.

I took out my V1 when I dropped the car off...and when I got to the dealer this am, I noticed I forgot to bring it...I told myself to chill on the way home....well, I got to exciting driving the car (its been 3 weeks). The tranny feels awesome now...I guess I lost my head about it! Time for traffic school now. lol

edit: My car was a PuMA case, so maybe I got the update on a rush basis....just a thought.

You can hardly pick-up an issue with the DCT over a test drive. Its a pretty good system in the first place and you need to drive it quite extensively to find a fault if any. My only issue at present is the lag which seems to differ with various settings and revs but can be frustrating especially when you bump into the redline cut-off.
