Interest in aluminum custom front undertray replacement?

These under trays are finished and ready for purchase if you are interested. I've updated this post with cost and purchase info. Page 7 of this thread has first install pics and the following pages have more info. Any questions or purchase inquiries can be sent to slamboparts@gmail.com. Thanks!

We're only offering one version of this now...

$400 for powder coated under tray with duct work. This does not include shipping cost to you.

Aero pieces, that are easily bolt on, are in development but aren't available yet. We'll update when they become available.

Here is install guide if you are curious about it. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B11...ew?usp=sharing

Trying to gauge interest in an aluminum replacement for your plastic factory under tray. I recently needed to replace parts of mine and thought that the cost was ridiculous for basically throw away parts. Saw a post where a guy here was trying to make a custom under tray but he couldn't get the cost down to a reasonable level. It's very similar to what me and my buddy Zach mocked up below. He's an engineer and knows guys that produce these types of parts... if he orders these parts produced in bulk the price comes down considerably. I'm definitely having one or two of these made for myself but wanted to see if any of you guys would be interested in purchasing one of these for yourselves, and if so... what would you pay for a product like this. Anyways, here's a 3d model of what it will look like... it replaces parts 20, 23, 23 on the diagram below and uses existing screw holes.

I would be interested at a price point of existing factory parts or less. Probably there would be enough margin to make it worth your while and for customers would be similar to existing under tray replacement cost but would be much more durable (hopefully a one time purchase). Guess it would depend on how much more durable it really is (replace 2x over 100k miles vs 5x with factory undertray parts for example).

the felt is not a flat piece and it needs to sit snug under the oil cooler. otherwise, air isn't going to be directed properly. turner motorsport is working on a similar piece, but i don't think they have released a price point yet.

God Yes! I've ripped off the #32 pieces twice now and just said F" it and haven't replaced them yet. Really getting tired of spending 80 something bucks on each one when back in the day BMW charged mid 30's for them.

I'd like to see how this fits on the car. How do the fender liners attach? It looks like it would give more clearance under the front of the car which would be a good thing.

Definitely interested in an alternative to the felt/plastic pieces if the price is reasonable.

OP, I think if you come in around the same cost of the factory parts most would buy it! Hell if someone made one that was an exact fit as oem but made of aluminum, hell I wouldn't have any issues paying as much as 1000 for it. I've gone through 2 of the center belly pans in the past year due to hitting random small animals! Hell my carbon fiber front lip holds up better!
Anyone ever look into making one out of carbon and Kevlar???

YES!!!!

I have been searching for something like this for what feels like forever.

This needs to replace the silly felt plastic pieces (#23 left and right + the center #20) and extend forward under the bumper. Build it in either aluminum (as suggested) or heavy duty plastic (whatever the appropriate grade/type is) and add bump pads for where it will most likely contact the ground. This will be a great replacement upgrade that has been need by the community for a long time!

The only thing that I have seen that is close is the Vorsteiner GTS-V in carbon fiber, and I don't know if it does what you are looking to do.

As for price, target something in the ball park of the OEM parts (all three pieces combined) MSRP. You get there and its an easy sell to everyone that needs to replace their damaged factory parts.

I think to make it worth it they are going to be around 300 bucks. Could be less... depends on how big the batch is.

Is it going to be a single piece or 3 pieces?

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

A flat undertray wouldn't work.

If you look underneath, the undertray is actually curved and hangs below the bumper. There's also rubber on the undertray where those holes are to make it snug with the oil cooler and direct air to cool it.

As others have mentioned, those side pieces will need to be 3D as well in the same shape as OEM for it to work.

Here is link to flat undertray working on a car. Once we get prototype built I will post pics of it on my own car. Slight differences to the one pictured... I didn't care for a splitter and this is shortened to fit existing screw holes.

definitely interested as long as there aren't any fitment issues. I bought one for my audi after a Chicago winter tore the oem plastic one to shreds. it's held up and done wonders for the last 3 years now.

as a price point - the dieselgeek aluminum skid plate for my audi cost about $180-190 if I recall correctly. anything in that ballpark and I'm in. anything much more and i'll have to pass since the car doesn't see any snow or terrible weather anyways.
