Ohlins R&T - Servicing/Rebuild Cost & Interval
Looking for some real-world experience of Ohlins R&T owners here...
Has anyone rebuilt their coilovers yet? If so, what was the cost and did you have to send them to Ohlins directly? Ohlins seems to recommend servicing every 15-30k miles, which seems quite often. Thanks! |

While my E92 M3 gets some new parts, we sent the Ohlins dampeners directly to Ohlins Germany for a rebuilt:
costs for all for dampeners is about 700 €. The coilovers had been running about 75.000 km (~46k mls) including four winters with a lot of salt We also installed: Millway camber plates Millway solid subframe bushings and Millway front control arm bushings (street version). |

Depends what kind of driving you do but most stuff is good for a lot longer than they say unless it's strictly a track only car. 20k miles on glass smooth highway isn't going to put any significant wear on the shock vs 5k miles on some crap roads.
I actually don't know anyone that's had their R&T rebuilt just because they had X number of miles on them. Ohlins USA is also just a little south of Asheville, NC so not too far away.

I agree with you:
it always depends on the road conditions In our rural areas, many roads are very bumpy with lots of potholes And since I had a few things changed on the chassis, I did the service on the R&T. Because it just offered itself, since the rear axle got stiff bushings and the differential was rebuilt too, Millway camber plates front, everything was expanded anyway Before everything was measured and adjusted according to wheel loads, a service was done. |

If you want more intel on what is actually necessary I would call and talk to Barry at 3DM Motorsport, he helps Ohlins develop some of their track day kits and has a wealth of knowledge. I bought my Ohlins R&T kit from him and find it's perfect for a dual duty car. Fwiw I originally went up on spring rates and then switched back to the default rates that come with the kit but with linear (more narrow) front springs. I think the softer standard springs are better for a car that is driven on the street 2-3+ days per week. Still fun on track when I crank the knobs to near full firm.
