New episode of DCT's gone bad.
OP, great review. I have yet to drive the Ferrari or Lamborghini, but I drove the 997.2 Coupe stick and GT-R and out of these, I'd pick 911 first, M3 next and GT-R last. The 911 stick felt very interactive, good suspension setup, some strange handling quirks but what stuck out was the gritty feelsome feedback of the suspension, steering and transmission. I drove my neighbors Elise for 30 min of pure bliss, but the seats were so uncomfortable that my feet went numb during the drive. Yes it is the purest expression of what a sports car should feel like IMO, and I may still own one soon as they aren't that expensive, but only as the 3rd car in the family, not a replacement for the M3. Great review, sounds like you had fun...

Glad to hear the gt Porsches deliver in spades. Sounds like a more cost effective upgrade.

Once you described the Carrera with the word "soul-less", I stopped reading.

It's amazing that while the M3 is completely outgunned here, it's still able to make you think for a second. The E9x is that gap right before you reach exotic cars like these. Perfect blend of performance and everyday utility. Not to mention somewhat being affordable (used cars prices are very reasonable for what you get IMO).
I'm a long long way to reaching that dream, but a 911 Turbo and some type of Italian sports car will be in my garage someday

2. It had the first gen PDK. shifts as slow and feels just like my wife's 335i. 3. I had just got out of the gallardo. It's all relative. The only thing I loved about the car was the steering/handling.

FYI, the R8 doesn't have a DSG/DCT; it has an automated manual just like the Gallardo would have had if it hadn't been a true 6MT. Definitely not as smooth or as fast as a DCT. I have owned 4 of the cars (as well as two E92 M3's) and spent significant seat time in the others, and wouldn't agree with most of your opinions, but that's no biggie.
