I am a fan of the style and to each their own. I do not like the abuse of camber though.

There's a limit for me on stretching tires. These still look good and still functional compared to the 370Z I posted earlier.

That's true, but these owners are defeating the purpose of the car. A performance car (like the M3) doing the hellaflush theme? I just can't see it. I actually saw an e92 m3 with rims that poke out with lots of camber in a car show sometime back. It was so low that the owner had to really go sideways when going over a small speed bump. All I did was shake my head.
I know it comes back again to their car, their money. LOL! Oh well to each his own...

Now you got it. We all have our own preferences. You have yours, but at the end of the day, we all mod our cars the way we like them. That's what makes us all different. Not everyone needs to mod an M3 the way you see fit, nor do you need to mod your M3 the way they see fit

Stretched tires and camber is something you either hate or love, there is no in between on the subject. There are varying amounts of stretched tires, but the most common these days on show cars is max stretch. When going stretched tires on a non-tracked or drift car, it is purely to achieve the maximum amount of lip the wheel can have. People who do this usually sacrifice performance for looks in this case. The negative camber associated with this is to allow the person to achieve a greater width and lip size on the wheel. Also, people who do this have their fenders rolled, cut, and pulled. This is done so the sidewall of the tire doesn't rub against the fender causing blowouts from lacking of sidewall. As for the wheel itself, doing this allows the wheel to have damage done to both the inside and outside lip/barrel with the ability of contact to the road itself increasing. Most people recommend not stretching tires that much on a daily driver because they tend to lose air, especially if a pothole is hit; pretty much if you hit a pothole with the original stretched tires shown on the first page, the tire will lose all pressure. It actually takes tons of work to make this look proper. Most people half ass it and usually crash their cars from blowouts. That 370z on the first page just took it to an extreme and it looks awful. He made no bodywork to try to fix the lines of the bumper to the fender. The Japanese are really big into this, especially with their VIP scene. The Japanese though take it too far to where only a very small portion of tire will make contact with the ground.

You'd be surprised at how many people buy performance cars and subsequently and purposely REMOVE some of the performance by lowering the car too much, putting wheels in the wrong size or offsets (or a combination of both) just for the sake of appearance and what they think looks good.
People who have a bit of knowledge about suspension, chassis dynamics and handling will just shake their head and the majority will drool and give thumbs up. |

You should go on E46fanatics...its all about stance, hellastretch and hellaflush. Its an epidemic here in TX. I have no idea why anyone would think this is cool. The odd thing is there hasn't even been a movie about it.
Any my rant about 370z's. Whenever I see anyone get out of a 350/370Z...the first word that comes to my mind is dickhead. On the track? Worst driver ever/train conductor. But I'm sure a lot of people say the same thing about M3 owners...

I don't like the way it looks at all. But that's personal preference.
A small "stretch" or a fitment that is as recommended or using a tire width slightly narrower than recommended can help handling in terms of steering feel, turn in and sidewall stability. An example of fitment is for example - a 265 tire getting tested on a 9.5" rim - running a 265 or even 255 would have te above benefits over a wider tire and be slightly stretched, but nothing like the pics shown earlier The one negative would be on high horsepower cars that may need more rubber for traction purposes. But in they case you could just run a wider wheel.

All the cars pictured look ridiculous IMO. Any stretch that leaves part of the rim seat exposed is completely tasteless IMO. Yes, it is like wearing baggy-ass pants too low, or any other fashion statement taken to the extreme.
There is an optimum range of wheel width/tire width combinations. 265/35/19 have a range of 9-10.5". 9.5-10", therefore, is a great width for optimal tread contact. Outside the ranges, performance is hindered for varying reasons. Of course, if you wear 4 big gold medallions, and like the idea of 6 12" subs in the trunk of your M3, then, yes, I guess you might like the overstretched look too.

Yes, but on a public forum, when you post pics or give an opinion, you must be prepared for all sorts of responses. If not, by all means, keep it to yourself and enjoy what you like.

I gave my opinion if you didn't see above and rested my case. The OP posted a super EXTREME stretched cambered Z which I'm not a fan of. I posted a light/mild stretch setup that I like to show an example of what I'm talking about. I don't really have anything else to say. At the end of the day what you guys say here on this thread is not gonna change my out look on anything.....half the people on this forum can't even change there own oil much less tell me what I like my car to look like. Thats why I end with to each is own. I have a set of Work Brombachers on order 19x11 +12 (rear) and I'm putting them on a 275 tire...And I couldn't give a f*ck if anyone on here liked it or not. So there is your answer to why I say to each is own...I rest my case again.

I'm just waiting for someone to put a 265 tire on a 7" rim...the next tire installer's nightmare in the making.

I completely agree that as long as a particular owner is happy with what he/she does to his/her own car, that is all that matters in the end. However, if you don't want people's opinions, or if you easily take offense when someone gives a negative opinion, maybe you should just keep to yourself, enjoy your car the way you want it, and not post about it online.
