Question piston spreader tool

I purchased a set of stop tech BBKs and I need to switch the track pads off the brakes to the street pads. I have the car lifted up and the top off the BBK but now I need a way to compress the pistons so I can get the pads out.

I would like something that will not mess up the finish of the BBK etc.

I have seen some people say C clamps but they look like they are going to scratch things up. I also found this:
http://www.zeckhausen.com/Tools/cali...n_spreader.htm

But that is a bit expensive and very large. I was hoping for something smaller that I could easily get in my car so I could switch pads at the track etc.

Any ideas?

This one available on Amazon works fine and is a lot better deal at $46.

I've used that big expensive one a few times with my AP BBK and I would not recommend spending the money. It is definitely helpful but I still end up having to use my fingers for the final push on each piston. The one on Amazon looks promising though.

I use it with the pads attached on the brembo six piston front. Otherwise it is not wide enough.

I recently got an add from ECS tuning for a compression tool. Might check them to see if theirs would work. Not too expensive.

Sorry, link got too difficult to add here.

the Girodisc tool works great, but you need to grind the edges to get it to fit easily into ST60 Caliper.

+1 works really well with the ST40 BBK. There was an earlier post about how to push all 6 pistons on the ST60 with this tool, if you do a search it'll come up.

OP, you don't have to waste time ordering a part. What I used is this;

Cut a 1" square of card board or large enough for the surface of the C-clamp. That cardboard goes between the finish of the caliper (outside) and the clamp head goes on the brake pad. Turn slowley and make sure you don't slip off. I apply the pressure at two points of my AP pads so in order to compress all three pistons equaly. I open the brake reservor just incase to release the pressure. Never scuffs up the paint of the calipers. Easy.

But if your going to be doing this alot, then that tool is perfect. I'm thinkng of getting it now.

The tool from amazon worked great. One piece of advice to others - when spreading the pistons, do it with the pads still on.

Totally agree. I changed mine with the tool that I borrowed from a friend. If I changed my pads as much as he does, I would get one for myself. Yes, spread with pads still on.

that's designed to spread with the pads on. it's a great tool and I'll take full credit for creating its official name..."the whore spreader".
