I dont know what tyres the dealer were planning to put on but these are the homologated fitment for the new M3.
This is not correct, at least for the U.K. I have 19" rims with regular Pilot Sports.

As far as I know the 19" wheels (style 220) come with Cup+ tires in Europe. Here's a report on this: http://www.reifenpresse.de/CDML007/e...97&RecID=14471

Anyway Michelin seemed to have problems supplying enough of these tires, so BMW initially equipped the 19" wheels with Michelin PS2. I expect all cars being delivered from now on to come with Cup+ tires when the 19" wheel option is chosen.

This has no relevance for the US, though. All US spec cars will come on Michelin PS2, regardless of wheel size.

Best regards, south

These tyres are not the same as on the CSL and are not a major problem to drive on in all weathers. If you look at the tread pattern, half of the tyre is designed for clearing water.
Regards.

From what I understand of the Cup + tyres, they provide 12-15% better grip in damp condition, but lose out to the standard tyres when it comes to standing water. They are excellent tyres and certainly not unsafe in general, day to day driving...

I heard back from the dealership yesterday and the cup tyres are the new standard tyre for the M3 if you have the 19" wheels. I have tried these tyres out in the wet and low temps and I like them well.

Does anyone have any data comparing the durability of the two tyres?
