And poor judgement. The fact that the driver was passing someone and changing lanes indicates they were going faster than they should have been in that kind of weather, and definitely did not give any respect for the road conditions. I agree that sometimes you simply hydro plane regardless of your precautions, and you definitely want to be proactive and keep fresh tires, but that driver was definitely not driving for the conditions. Tread wear or any other aspect of the car can't save you from poor driving.

Wow! At 0:14 you can see the passenger door open and the passenger who is wearing a white shirt get tossed around. Good thing the passenger was wearing a seat belt.

I noticed that too, but I think it's merely the airbag.

I'll bet my money that DTC/DSC was off...Or the driver was a wanabe Ken Block...
There is no way you can drive on an almost traffic free freeway with your hands on the steering wheel, driving adequate (due to the weather conditions) and sudently you're blasting your way completely out of control into a wall...If feel sorry for both the driver and the car...

Aquaplaning may be a point although the driver judges the situation and takes the necessary actions.

Sorry to say ... the driving conditions called for much slower driving or even waiting out the heavy rain. Also, the driver overtook on the right he should never ever do this.

Hope the driver came out okay ... hate to see this.

I know I might sound like a cold hearted person and a prick BUT I don't feel sorry for the driver of the M3.
Does anybody see the REAL reason this happened. Driver of the M3 was thinking he was a pro racing driver and tries to take the car with the camera with another car in front of him. Driver of the M3 accelerates to SQUEEZE by and loses control. Good for you. Next time slow down.
Good thing that M3's are solid cars.

scary video!

Typical case of hydroplaning. This is one of the reasons why over here on the Autobahns you need at least 4mm of thread and tires not older than five years. The legal limit is 1.2mm but everyone knows you need at least 4mm's!!

Many people don't realize how important new tires are, until you hydroplane your car at speed.

If you are driving too fast on water and making sharp turns, the car you're in doesn't matter. You can't beat physics, they win every time.

Here's what it looks like to me.

M3 going fast and car in front of him is slowing down.
He brakes but due to water on road he loses control.
As he tries to correct him going left, he steers right strongly, and hits the indicator stalk in process, all panicking no doubt.
Obviously hits the barrier and rolls it. Speed weren't that high it seems. Probably too fast for conditions but not much over limit.

Agreed, that is a very narrow minded and stupid thing to say. If you research the statistics insurance companies have to release each year, the only telling factor in hydroplaning claims is age, there is nothing to indicate one race is worse than another. It's age and experience that is usually at fault.

Hopefully the person posting that was just trying to be funny since the crash is credited with happening in Taiwan.
