Supercharged E90 M3 engine kaput on highway

Hi,

found this on YT (17:00 is the part of the video):

What do you think the root cause is?

Pretty good footage of the "engine kaput" moment

i'm glad he's concerned about the important mods. like that the valve covers match the brake calipers.

they abused the living shit out of that car though, so I'm not surprised it blew up.

I wonder if they did an engine break in procedure? Seems like they put it back together and went straight to the dyno and ripped on it. It’ll be interesting on how long this motors gonna last.

Main bearing #1 and took out rods with it. Superchargers put a lot of pressure on those mains

This is my biggest fear about being supercharged. Putting more pressure on mains in a car that already has bearing clearance issues.

The good news, is this car is a 16 year old now, and there are a ton of people running superchargers these days. Main bearing failures seem to be rather rare. I expected it to be more of a thing over the years and it just wasn't.

To be fair, the owner states the main bearing went as a result of over-revving the engine. He swapped to shorter gears with a lower top speed, and sat at the limiter WOT.

Yep, and this is one of those rare examples of a main failure. You can break anything if you try hard enough.
