SMG is a crazy cool piece of engineering, but when you drive it back to back with a DCT (which I unfortunately did at the time, since I had the M5 and my E92 at the same time), you see it fall down. That's why it's interesting to me and a fair number of other people to explore a conversion.

I believe M owners who bought SMGs and DCTs expecting them to act/perform like a conventional AT and then complained to BMW about them are the reason why BMW eliminated the DCT in the G8x. The G8x ZF 8AT is not even close to a F8x DCT. I’m surprised the F8x DCT made it to production. |

at the end of the day im not a supporter of dct behind the s85, the car drives nice enough with a stick shift for that to be the end all of smg issues/characteristics. people complained about dct because they bought a transmission expecting it to drive smoothly like an auto but shift like a manual, its one or the other. dct is shit, you cant launch it at the track strip, it will overheat on a roadcourse unless you spend $2000 on a pan and a cooler. at the end of the day im not the voice for automated transmissions, I prefer manual

I do love a 5/6SPD with dog engagement... there's something about just slamming it into gear. I miss my Evo 9 so much because of that. (made a horrible street car though with dogbox)
Personally, I just can't be bothered with manual anymore. I don't track as often, and I'd rather not sit in traffic with my foot on the clutch. Although, I'd take a 6SD DG500 on an S85 or S65 any day of the week over a traditional manual.
