DCT Transmission Malfunction Selectir Rod 5/7

Hi everyone! I recently purchased a 2010 Jerez Black e92 m3 110k miles. I am coming from a 2002 e46 m3 SMG and suprisingly I had no issues with the SMG on that car (drove it roughly 40k miles). When I purchased this e92 I was cruising on the highway in automatic mode and I applied a little throttle to get past traffic and the car went into 6th gear and the transmission gear came up on the dash screen and the Idrive read “transmission malfunction limited gears available”. I then slowed down and the car went from 6th to 4th skipping 5th and 7th would not engage either. When I reached home I turned the car on and off and there was no error or light. I drove to spiritedly around a couple hours later and no problems (in both auto and manual). I get back on the highway the next day and the same thing happened again. I’ve owned the car for 2 weeks and it has come on 5 times so far and each time I turned the car off it went away. I took it to bmw and they scanned the codes and it ONLY gave a selector rod 5/7 code (005a64) and they quoted me 20,000 for a new trans! I am in shambles over this news. I had the car perform a dct adaption and the problem still persisted. The dct fluid and filter and pan were changed at 93k miles and the battery and alternator were changed a couple days ago by me. Does the car need new clutches? Trans replacement? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

gearshift rod codes indicate a bad transmission, you can put a used transmission in the car. 100% someone traded that car in because it needed a transmission or they sold it for that reason. dont waste money or time trying to service it.

what he said ^. also, it's not a $20k job. you can get a used trans for under $2k, and it's 8-10 hours of labor to throw it in.
