Filled the wrong gas by mistake!!!

Hi All,

Today I filled up 0.5 gal of 87 Octane and 15 gal of 91 Octane fuel. I pulled out the nozzle as soon as I realized I was filling in the wrong gas. Is this OK, or should I get my car towed to the dealer to get all the fuel siphoned off?

I know this sounds kind of stupid, but I just picked up my 2013 M3 a couple of weeks back and I was driving around a '97 Honda for 5 years.

Thanks All!

No problem at all...If you're super nervous just add some octane boost additive.

0.5 gallons of 87 will hardly impact your octane rating for the entire tank...don't worry about it. You could, but would not advise it, run an entire tank of 87 and not cause significant problems, a half a gallon won't be noticable at all.

Seriously, 0.5 gallons of 87 octane will have no impact on your car. As other have pointed out, if you are really concerned, drive a bit then top off with higher octane gas...

All right, guess then I should be fine (~90.8 effective octane) ! I am just obviously a little more nervous since the car is new.

On a slightly more serious note, one of the great things about the M3 is that while it is a high performance monster when you want it to be, it is also a very reliable, robust everyday driving car. It's not some delicate exotic that will fall apart if you look at it wrong even if you mistakenly put slightly lower octane gas in it or use a quart of oil that's not BMW approved 10w60 (rare as hen's teeth, buy a couple of quarts from your dealer now before you need them) every once in a while.

Have fun with the new car
